Night 59: Main Street

[from here]Before being overran was a well enough warning any other night. Here, however, tonight-- The Digimon's reflexes were higher, tighter; she could feel the lack of general lag like a set of weights being removed. She was assured of her own speed and agility--of shifting from this reality if need be--and if she was utterly honest with ( Read more... )

'Holy shit' was Byrne's new favorite phrase as of tonight.

The approaching zombi were a horrifying sight, but he had a handgun and (thanks to Renamon) a knife to accompany it, so it wasn't like he was going into this situation unarmed. But in spite of that, it'd be better to avoid fighting those things to prevent the pair from getting hurt. He turned to Renamon--

...Who had vanished by this point, having jumped high in the air to perform her attack upon the zombi. Once again, she was shattering the prosecutor's perceptions of reality right before his eyes.

The monsters were taken care of now, but--but--augh! This was--that was--t-this was the sort of thing you'd see on Saturday morning television, not real life! People summoning crystals out of thin air like magic? How was that even possible?!

Once again, he was tormented by his curiosity and lack of understanding. But he wasn't going to start bombarding Renamon with questions again. He would gawk for a good minute, sure, but he wouldn't ask. Just don't even, Faraday. It's easier ( ... )

Byrne may have thought the attention alienated her, but Renamon was used to staring. And being stared at for her capabilities, newly returned, was welcomed. When the man glanced away, Renamon smiled, letting out a quiet chuckle. She let the silence hang for a few moments, as her accented hearing listened for any further threats. There were rumblings a street over but they had a few minutes. The first stop was across the street, and she could spare the time to explain some things ( ... )

Aack, she got him there. "Well--! I--uh--uh--umn--" Byrne's face reddened a little as he spent another moment failing to make intelligible words. Crap. Speak correctly, damn you! "W-well, yeah, honestly, I'm confused as all hell right now." Did he even need to say that, with how much it'd been written all over his face earlier? Renamon seemed kind of amused by the whole thing, in any case. Better than her being mad at him for staring, at least ( ... )

He prioritized. She had to give him that. The Digimon gave a respectful nod, then turned toward the solitary building across the street. "The teleporting to Doyleton isn't one of mine," she said nonchalantly. "I don't know if you heard about the night with the portals." She let that hang for a moment, then continued. "In short, each door opened to a random location instead of what it should have led to. At the end of the night, some were granted a ring that saved the last location you were at when the night ended.

"I was in the building we came into. The ring can be reset to any location if you're in it, so it's an invaluable tool." And now, thanks to Nigredo's loan, she had two--both to locations that were main priorities as of late, for different reasons. As she spoke they reached the other side of the street, and after glancing around, Renamon brought the side of the bladed knuckle down onto the door knob, breaking it off entirely. That done, she slipped inside.

[porting in from here]He should have been used to such a jarring experience as transport by this time, yet the one thing he'd never been able to manage well were the landings. Usually he would blame the manjuu on that much, but it didn't make sense to blame a ring for anything. As much he wanted to for how the thing flung him to the ground of a Doyleton alleyway ( ... )

[From here.]

Unlike the transportation crap, Angel Air was as smooth as a baby's bottom, if said bottom could travel faster than the speed of light. It wasn't so much traveling, anyway. Not to human perceptions. It was a very convenient, instantaneous kind of thing. And look, he hadn't even thrown them into a parallel universe. He was just full of uncharacteristic kindness tonight.

Anyway. No one was gonna have headaches or be falling over from his efforts. Mainly because real teleportation was messy and usually involved wormholes, which were a lot more fun going in than coming out. Personal experience. Don't ask.

"This is as far as this gravy train goes, bro. Good enough for your heroic efforts, I'm assuming."

It was strange, traveling in this way and yet not being the one in charge of it. More than that, Gabriel was able to move around in a way that was somehow beyond what Castiel was capable of, even when his wings weren't weighed down in this way. He was used to this method of transport, however, and so he barely blinked at the transition ( ... )

Soma had been expecting the world to wrench around her like the teleport rings had done, and she almost stumbled, overcompensating for a reaction that never came. Instead, one moment they were in the institute, and the next moment, they simply...weren't.

She inclined her head at Castiel's brother in a gesture of thanks before she turned her attention to the streets around them. Doyleton. She was nearly disappointed about recognizing their surroundings. Evidently their powers were slightly limited after all. But she couldn't deny it had been a help; it would have taken them hours to get this far on any other night.

"Let's get moving," she said quietly. "Out of the town if possible. This place is probably still under Aguilar's influence. I'd rather not wake up in my bed in the morning."

If she were not mistaken, they were in the town. That was quite a ways, was it not? They'd needed a bus to get here normally.

She turned to Mr. Mustache, but he seemed to be gone. Ah... He must have left while Maya had been disoriented from the change in view. Off to try his own thing, Maya assumed, which suited her fine. All the patients trying various methods of breaking out was the best scenario Maya could think of in this situation. Hopefully at least one of them had thought of discovering how the patients were brought here in the first place.

But as for Maya's current situation...the matter of 'influence' was worrying. Normally one followed the roads to leave a town, yes? But that may or may not hold true if Aguilar had dominion over this town. "What would 'exit' constitute to you?" she asked.
