Night 59: Forest

Nov 03, 2011 04:51

[ from here ]In the end, Venom didn't even have to provide directions; there was a dense forest that stood out in the general direction he pointed at, and Chipp managed to put two and two together. Running through the snowy wasteland didn't slow him down in the slightest, though the biting cold of the outdoor wind was far more noticeable then the ( Read more... )

Assassins were usually taught to be prideful creatures, but Venom had never considered himself above admitting to his own mistakes. Learning from them was an important part of life and especially for someone wishing to run a successful business. It was just something he'd always been able to do at a very young age: see the bad decisions he had made in the past and vow to never repeat them ( ... )

The face he hadn't gotten a cue to the face meant all was well, as far as Chipp was concerned. "Had to stop you somehow." Alright, so trying to find Landel in this dark underbrush... Easy. Chipp could see why Venom decided to take him along, which had nothing to do with the fact that Chipp invited himself to Venom's shenanigans for the night without really considering what the assassin had to actually say on the matter, which was good enough. Hey, he was here, right ( ... )

To be truthful, that sense of relaxation held true for the assassin as well and he found himself peering up at the ceiling of branches as they trekked forward. There was just something instinctively calming about a dense forest that stone walls lacked. The combination of shadows, leaves and twigs crunching softly underfoot with each step, the air, and numerous places to hide made the woods... not comforting, exactly. Somewhat soothing.

Though perhaps staying at ground-level wasn't the most intelligent of ideas. As soothing as the sound was, their movement would alert anything that heard it and that could not be allowed. Venom gave a small glance to his company before he pushed himself upward and toward those branches overhead, grasping onto the sturdiest one he could before pulling up to stand on top of it. It'd been... a long while since he'd done this. There wasn't any way he was about to lose his footing, not without a reason, but that lack of practice still formed a small mass of unease in his stomach. If something went wrong--

It was like Venom read his fucking mind; the soft sounds that Venom found relaxing, Chipp found deafening. Whatever they were (or weren't) tracking was going to hear them for miles, but Chipp had taken his company into consideration. Jumping from trees was an art as far as Chipp was concerned and he didn't want to burden Venom with the task of keeping up. But then Venom climbed the tree and it was on ( ... )

"...This is creepy as shit." Badou had never seen a forest in person in his entire life. Sure, he'd caught a few Halloween specials that looked something like this, but suddenly he felt very out of his depth. He had to slow his pace just so that he wouldn't trip and kill himself every three steps.

"Which way?"

Allelujah paused, looking around to get his bearings once more. "I'm not sure," he admitted. "I managed to get up to the mountains a while back. There's a lake up there, but I don't think it would be much use to us." And Badou's wounds would make climbing rather difficult if not impossible.

He turned around, pointing after a moment. he could hear water in one direction so maybe they should try the other.

"Let's just try to get as far as possible." Badou fell into step behind him, partially because Alle was the only one who had any clue at all, and partially because he was having a hell of a time feeling his way through one-eyed and bleeding in the dark.

He was already slowing down, and it wasn't just the undergrowth.

Allelujah swallowed and then nodded, starting to walk. He got quite a way ahead before realising that Badou wasn't quite behind him and then he stopped and went back. He was slower than he had been already and that was worrying. How many things would try to pick him off as the weaker target?
