[From here.]After a point, the hallway cleared out entirely due to them passing all of the other pairs of patients that had been meeting up or waiting around. The sirens had shut off by now and it had left everything deadly quiet as a result. When the entrance to the stairwell came into sight, the Doctor almost swerved sharply towards it-only to change his mind a fraction of a second later. They'd already come this far to lose that lot of oversized scorpions, and the medical wing was just a little further down. It couldn't hurt to shut the scorpions out there (presumably the creatures wouldn't be able to open doors, blast them down, or otherwise get past them-but one could never be entirely sure of that) and then take some time to have a look around there. Maybe he even could find some left over samples from the drug trials...

"And over here!" he called to his companion, making straight for the medical wing door. It was already partly ajar, so he yanked it fully open and pulled to the side to let the other man go through first.

Billy was beginning to breathe again. They hadn't clamoured their way out of the danger yet, but the pressure was lightening. Billy glanced over his shoulder, towards the dark abandoned hallway. It was empty, but her heard sounds that crawled over his imagination with deadly effectiveness. He had, as of late, become much better at picturing horrors that might come after him. He could no longer justify it with they don't exist or even if they did, who are you? Why would they care? The Angel might rescue him, or it might be busy, or maybe it just couldn't keep up with their sprinting. Nothing happened when Billy probed for it, silently asked it where it was, come on now, we're leaving.

But it didn't need him, really. Not like Billy might need it. He went through the door the Doctor had indicated without a clue as to where his erstwhile guardian might be.
