Night 59: Main Hallway, 1-East

Oct 27, 2011 11:38

[From here.]After a point, the hallway cleared out entirely due to them passing all of the other pairs of patients that had been meeting up or waiting around. The sirens had shut off by now and it had left everything deadly quiet as a result. Harvey clenched a fist around his metal pipe, fighting off the paranoia that something was lurking around ( Read more... )

All Jones really had to do was pick out the door. Harvey stepped up to it, finding that it looked more or less innocuous. The sign that marked it the medical wing would have easily been missed if they didn't know what they were looking for, which was why he memorized the door's location for any future nights. Not that Harvey really planned to make a habit out of coming here, but he was guessing that the medical wing was the place to go for any first aid supplies, so it was good to keep in mind.

It looked like Jones was thinking along the same lines when it came to the lock. And of course this door was locked. Harvey huffed to himself, wondering why their captors went to the trouble of giving them these weak locks in the first place. To slow them down, maybe, but it just seemed like such a shoddy obstacle.

"Right." He stepped forward and lifted the metal pipe up, holding it tight between both hands. He located the lock with his gaze and then aimed, swinging the pipe at it as hard as he could. A clang sounded and the pain of the ( ... )

Indy watched as Dent whacked the lock with his steel pipe. It was like watching a kid hit a piñata--one more good hit and the thing would be done for. Unfortunately, Dent didn't have time to take it before a bestial snarling noise sounded behind them. They had company, and it wasn't friendly.

"Damn!" Indy was in no shape to watch Dent's back, but he didn't have a choice. He turned sideways--keeping one eye on the hallway, the other on Dent's progress--and uncoiled the dog leash. With one sharp, agonizing jerk of his right arm and shoulder, he cracked it in the general direction of the snarling. It didn't make quite the right sound, but it wasn't bad, and the metal clip at the end hit the floor with a resounding clang that might scare something away if it wasn't too big or smart.

Indy wasn't prepared to bank on its not being too big or smart. "How's it going?" he asked urgently, hoping to God the answer was well enough that he wouldn't have to take another swing.

Harvey knew that he couldn't really rely on Jones to keep any monsters at bay. Normally he wouldn't have been that concerned, but the guy was still healing and he wasn't that well-armed. Whatever had made that noise was probably packed full of teeth and claws and Harvey had his back turned to the hall, which was enough to make anyone feel vulnerable.

So the only option he really had was to work quickly and hope that they could get through the door before whatever that was caught up to them. He reared back again, forgetting the pain that was still throbbing through his arms in order to hit the lock once more. It gave, and Harvey didn't hesitate to get moving. He transferred the metal pipe into one hand, grabbed his previously dropped flashlight with the other, and then used that hand to grab Jones by the collar.

He tried not to pull the man too harshly, but he didn't exactly have the time to be gentle. "Come on!" he yelled as he kicked the door open further and then dragged them both through.

When the entrance to the stairwell came into sight, the Doctor almost swerved sharply towards it-only to change his mind a fraction of a second later. They'd already come this far to lose that lot of oversized scorpions, and the medical wing was just a little further down. It couldn't hurt to shut the scorpions out there (presumably the creatures wouldn't be able to open doors, blast them down, or otherwise get past them-but one could never be entirely sure of that) and then take some time to have a look around there. Maybe he even could find some left over samples from the drug trials...

"And over here!" he called to his companion, making straight for the medical wing door. It was already partly ajar, so he yanked it fully open and pulled to the side to let the other man go through first.

Billy was beginning to breathe again. They hadn't clamoured their way out of the danger yet, but the pressure was lightening. Billy glanced over his shoulder, towards the dark abandoned hallway. It was empty, but her heard sounds that crawled over his imagination with deadly effectiveness. He had, as of late, become much better at picturing horrors that might come after him. He could no longer justify it with they don't exist or even if they did, who are you? Why would they care? The Angel might rescue him, or it might be busy, or maybe it just couldn't keep up with their sprinting. Nothing happened when Billy probed for it, silently asked it where it was, come on now, we're leaving.

But it didn't need him, really. Not like Billy might need it. He went through the door the Doctor had indicated without a clue as to where his erstwhile guardian might be.

The other end of the hallway was even quieter than the last as they crossed into it. Edgar listened for the skittering sounds they'd heard before, looked for the telltale legs or webbing as they traversed the passage; nothing so far, but he knew better than to be fooled.

They passed the door to the Medical Wing, which he recognized from his night with Ryuuzaki. He briefly wondered how a man like himself was faring, given that there were both monsters and patients running amok. Did he even have combat training? Edgar sighed to himself- he could only hope he hadn't made any enemies who would use the opportunity to strike against him.

Webs began to appear along the walls and ceiling as they reached the stairwell. Edgar readied his improvised weapon, pointing his light where he expected the creature to be... only to find it wasn't there. His expression remained impassive as he took another look around. Perhaps it could have escaped into the stairwell, or-

There was a noise from the way they came- a fwump as ( ... )
