Night 59: Main Hallway 2-Center (Includes Sun Room halls)

[Coming from here.]Upstairs was dark and silent, although to Daemon, the faint pink glow that coated all the surfaces since the alarm went off seemed more concentrated here. Was it stronger, perhaps? Or was there just more to hide? He brushed his fingers against it curiously as he stepped out of the stairwell and into the corridor above, his senses ( Read more... )

His instincts led them to a door on the left-hand side of the first intersecting hallway. It was unlocked, but Goku was more interested in the scent of the wood than actually opening the door. A stumpy had was placed against the worn grain.

"Everyone's gone," he said before looking back the way he had come. "Most of their trails jes disappear, but I can smell one of 'em. Maybe two up here."

"Homura did.  S'where I got this," Taura said, waggling the metal claws strapped to her right hand.  They're still offering 'toys', so Okita might have it."  They'd picked up a few other things, that Taura had never found out the details of.  That would have to stop -- they couldn't keep losing information as fast as they were losing officers.

But that was a puzzle for tomorrow.  Tonight they had a trail to follow.

Goku pulled his tail free of the closing door behind him and stared bug-eyed in the quiet and quasi-darkness. Here and there the young boy could pick up the scent or feeling of a nearby monster, but nothing close enough to be on alert.

That left him with Rita, alone. With a witch! It was a rather daunting experience, but what else was there to do? They had to wait for Taura.

"So, what's wrong with her?"

When the kid clued in and followed, Rita gave a sigh that was partly relieved and partly exasperated. She didn't want to have to spell the situation out for him in order to get him to move ( ... )

Yes, just as she’d said, all of them were prisoners still. Getting her strength back--getting the sesshouseki‘s strength back--was just the beginning considering that the hospital’s maintainers, bless their hearts, weren’t going to let any of their prized possessions go without a fight.

The evidence of that reality was all around them, in the butchered remains of the spectres. And like tap left running, there were more coming, tirelessly flooding the hallways.

Yomi hadn’t gotten far from the stairwell before the kidas revealed themselves, a mass of twisting, turning snake bodies sluicing through the gore toward them. In the way again, she thought, slowing but not coming to a complete stop. The meeting rooms were close, the only rooms she remembered from the second floor maps that fit the description of the alleged mission debriefings. If there were military personnel around this area, someone with a tongue who could scream and beg, they were the ones Yomi wanted, not these small fry ( ... )

Rose had fallen in behind Yomi, willing enough to let the other female take the lead. The state of the Institute was rather disgusting tonight, even she had to admit, her nose curled with distaste as she picked her way through the remains of so many things that she couldn't pick out what had been what ( ... )

Saber followed the other two further, taking her place to bring up the rear. They didn't seem to have a set positioning, but she was fairly certain it didn't matter terribly at the moment. Inwardly, her mind reeled at the atrocities she could see littering the halls of this prison. While she remained calm outwardly, she was quietly starting to fill with anger and contempt at the people responsible for these crimes. Such carnage, such destruction... And it was all twisted and unholy, spectres and beasts instead of men to stand honorably against those that they imprisoned ( ... )

"If it's only fodder, there's no point in hesitating," said Yomi, who was still moving forward. She'd be damned if she stopped now. All the better if one of her tagalongs wanted to take up the task of taking care of the serpentine creatures. It wouldn't hurt to see more of Saber's peculiar use of a sword, for curiosity's sake.

As the kida in the lead centered itself on Yomi and moved to strike, she spun to the side at the last moment, leaving a slim margin between her and the beast's odd, one-eyed head. If they did possess a notable danger, Yomi couldn't say since it was her first time seeing their like in the hospital.

"Go ahead!" she called to Saber. "First-timers get first try!"
