Night 59: M-C Block Hallway

[From here]How long had it been since he had run like there was a cheat code installed? He'd gotten close a couple times in the Institute, but never for very long. He was no The Flash, of course, but compared to any normal human runner, Scott Pilgrim still moved like falcon in a nose dive. ...Except instead of diving, he was running. And instead of ( Read more... )

...ah, damn it, the glow was out here too. This whole night was going to be such a pain in the ass with all this pink floating around. Gross. Niikura sighed and picked up the pace. Maybe if he walked fast enough, he wouldn't have to look at it as much.

They turned into another block hallway and the familiarity of it made the girl relax a bit more. So far, nothing strange had happened tonight. She could get by. She had Shou, and soon they would have another party member for exploration. Nothing to worry about.

"Glad it was interesting for you." A place with so much monotony during the daylight hours couldn't be good for Shou's health. He thrived on the different and the exciting. Nights were more suited to his tastes, though Shiina had yet to see more action than a gunman. Still, Shou didn't have his mask here nor the capabilities to reclone himself if things got messy, so she hoped they wouldn't run into anything more dangerous than, say, a box of kittens.

Mentioning Akumetsu. Shiina's lips pressed together for a moment, then she chuckled, a little shamefaced. "W-well, I sorta did to this one guy... but he didn't seem to know what I was talking about. And it was just him! I mean, y'know, other than drawing the symbol on the bulletin board yesterday."

Yeah.

"N...o?" Niikura replied, giving Shiina a questioning look. Byrne had been kind of weird about the food today over breakfast, come to think about it. "Uh...I mean, it looked normal to me, so I...yeah." Nothing they could do about it now. "Moving on," he said hastily.

And move on they did, back to the topic of Akumetsu. "Really?" He frowned. "Who? Did ya get his name?" Actually, that could be taken the wrong way--"Er, not that I'm gonna, y'know, use it against him or somethin', just wanna know who...y'know, knows." But apparently this stranger hadn't known about Akumetsu in the first place, which was good. It meant that no one (at least, no one that he hadn't authorized) knew about the connection between them yet. Still..."I only ask 'cause it's like back at home: can't expect everyone to understand and stuff." Man, this was so awkward. How to warn Shiina without letting her know what he'd been up to...if she knew, he was so going to be in for a lecture about being reckless ( ... )

[and back out from here]

"And c'mon, what racket are ya talkin' about?" Niikura joked as they walked back out into the adjoining hall. "Should be glad I didn't kick down the door or somethin' like that--now that'd be a racket, don't ya think?"

He was suddenly in the mood for being goofy, and while he would never admit it to himself, it was mostly because he didn't want Mike to suddenly latch onto the idea that he and Shiina were an item, because then he'd never hear the end of it. And it was just awkward. Awkward: he'd been using that word a lot tonight. Last night as well.

"Oh--I also managed to get a little somethin' extra--" Niikura held up the fencing sword for Mike to see. "--so if we run into somethin' on the way, we're packin' more than just flashlights now. Or, at least, I am. Better than nothin', though."

"Nice to meet you," Mike replied to Shiina, noting her reaction to his scars.

That was pretty normal, really. Even in the Resistance, he had more scars than most, and people always stared when they met him for the first time. She was just better than most at recovering, and politer with the staring.

She was also someone that Niikura knew from home. Knew pretty well from home, by the looks of it. Likely was more of a schoolgirl than a fighter. He'd have to watch her back.

"The racket was the alarms, if you hadn't of noticed them," Mike shrugged, and then he smirked at the sword in approval. "Ha, good. Ready to foil the evil General's plans and get some more?"

Bad puns. Mike might've been out of practice, but he still had a sense of humor. A bad one.

Well, Shou wasn't too forward about their relationship. That suited her fine. If he didn't want to explain the whole clone thing to just anyone then she had no objections. Besides, that was fairly close to the truth. Mike certainly seemed nice enough, and even if he looked scary it didn't mean he was a bad guy. She knew better than most that looks could be deceiving. Shou trusted Mike enough to travel with him in his nightly ventures; Shou, who trusted very few. Shiina continued to force herself to rest easy, despite the feelings of unease the night had started giving her.

The plan seemed easy enough. Granted they didn't run into any men with guns out there again tonight. Shiina could only hope, but Shou had a way of attracting just that kind of 'luck.' Setting her mouth in a grim smile, Shiina continued with them into the next hall.
