Day 59: Library

Anise couldn't get out of the Cafeteria fast enough. The stench of rotted food was overwhelming, and she was starting to feel sick. Most of her nausea came from seeing the people around her eating it, though. Even her friends! Anise didn't know what to do... What if lunch ended up being the same ( Read more... )

Speaking with Billy over their spoiled meals which neither of them had touched had at least given Castiel a moment of breathing room after waking up from that dream. He was still trying to sort through his thoughts on the past day, but part of him felt that it would be easier to take the memories, fake as they were, and file them away. He had to focus on more important matters, like trying to escape, rather than letting the military's plan work by being distracted by it ( ... )

It was fair to say that today had been the first time in Gabriel's very long existence where he woke up with an injury. The thing with getting stabbed over and over by the Winchesters? It was smoke and mirrors. Even having six inches of sharp steel shoved into his gut didn't hurt. Exploding from the inside? Whole different ballgame. But it was instantaneous. Pain didn't stick around for long because he hadn't stuck around for long. His Grave had dissipated and his wings had burned and bam, deadsville.

Now he was bandaged where a few inches of sharped monkey fang had dug into his human body, and he had felt every fun instance of it. Blood that was now his had stained his jacket (which, when he checked now, was pristine and clean. Goody.) and it was his arm that felt like shit warmed over.

Well. Not much he could do about it now. Gabriel was particularly not thinking of it being worth it. It was a spur of the moment thing. You know how it was ( ... )

It didn't take long for Gabriel to show himself. Either he had known Castiel would be looking for him, or this was one of those coincidences of life as a human. It wasn't as if they could sense each other the way they should be able to here, which was yet another annoyance to add to a very long list ( ... )

It wasn't exactly an empty threat, either. Gabriel fully intended to get his unclipped wings back, no matter who he had to kill to get to that point. Obviously he had target numero uno.

Boy, was he ever not in the mood to play twenty questions. This place was exhausting. So many people expecting straight answers from a trickster of all people. It was really wearing on his nerves. You know, along with everything else. He didn't owe his brother anything, but for the sake of keeping familial obligations alive and well, he decided to dip just below the surface.

It was not to say that Gabriel took any responsibility for what his brother had gone through in the coliseum. It wasn't. But the fact that it happened at all was, frankly, bothersome as hell.

"Slow down, Sarah Jessica. I'm not your flowing fount of information." He settled himself deeper into the couch, crossing his ankles on the table in front of them. "She was a freaking thirteen year old girl who fought with magical floating space text. What do you think she was? You're the ( ... )

It wasn't completely surprising that Gabriel decided to turn the question back onto him. That was, after all, the easiest way to evade a line of questioning. Still, it wasn't something that Castiel was willing to tolerate, though it also wasn't as if he could do anything to make his brother talk. He knew a thing or two about being physically persuasive, but he wasn't going to torture his brother and the staff wouldn't have allowed it even if he had been willing.

An annoyed expression passed across his face for a moment as his jaw tightened. Gabriel's constant references didn't help his mood much, either. Between him and Dean, Castiel had a whole mental list of things that he didn't understand.

"If you aren't willing to work out what sort of being she is, then I will ask her." In a way, that was a threat on its own. It was possible the girl -- Erika, had her name been? -- knew something that Gabriel didn't want him finding out. And if not, then it was simply one other way to get the answers he wanted ( ... )

"The question is: do I care? The answer is a big, fat no. I killed her. Boom. Well. It was more like stab, but you get the point. What she is doesn't matter to me. I'm not the one who goes around hunting the Loch Ness Monster for kicks. She could be a sparkling vampire for all I freaking care, Castiel. The problem is she is not permanently dead. I don't care who brought her back. I didn't. That's the rub."

It was a good damn thing talking too much was kind of Gabriel's forte, otherwise people would be accusing him of over sharing because he was bothered. Of course he wasn't bothered. Archangels don't get bothered. They get annoyed. Or they go into homicidal rages and start trying to tear apart the very threads of existence, as far as humanity was concerned ( ... )

Almost any time that Castiel spoke with Gabriel, he was struck by how different he and his brother were. However, a statement like the one that the archangel had just made about that girl made it even more obvious to him. Gabriel wasn't thinking about this the way a soldier would. Yes, he had killed her, and yes, someone had brought her back for reasons unknown. But what truly mattered here was that she was bound to have some sort of vendetta. What if she had retained more power than Gabriel had? She could come after him, after both of them (even though Castiel hadn't been directly involved, that night had made it clear that the two of them were connected). He would rather approach her first and work out exactly what they were dealing with ( ... )
