Night 57: M61-M70 Hallway

Sep 07, 2011 23:10

[M64]Hijikata finished his meal just as the doors unlocked themselves. Strange, that there were none of the usual announcements, but he wasn't going to take the time to dwell on it. He had a mission to accomplish. Setting the lighter down on the desk for the time being, he went back to his box and began pulling out the few things he was certain to ( Read more... )

[In M63.]When the lights went off, Guy wasn't prepared for it. How could he have been, when he'd been waiting for an announcement to introduce it? For a moment he wondered if it was some sort of mistake, but in the end he realized that Aguilar wasn't in the mood to talk to them this time around. Or he was busy with that Code 1-8, whatever it was. Guy didn't have a good feeling about it, but he could also only worry about it too much. His thoughts were almost entirely on Okita ( ... )

((From here.))

By now, Claude had traveled to Guy's room enough times to have the way practically memorized. He didn't even have to read the numbers along the hall as he jogged to his friend's door. With a lot of his injuries soothed, he was able to move easier than even just a few minutes ago. Incredible!

After clumsily adjusting the sword in his hand, he gave a quick knock.

"Guy? It's me!" He probably didn't even have to announce himself at this point, but with how dangerous some of the captives here could be, Claude figured it was best to say something. Still, as he spoke, it was difficult to keep his voice normal and calm enough to hide his jumbled thoughts. The night had barely started, and so much had already happened!

Luckily, Guy didn't have to agonize over whether to stay put for too long, since a knock sounded and Claude's voice came from the other side of the door. Rather than giving his friend the go-ahead to come in, Guy went ahead and moved over to the door, opening it himself ( ... )

He'd been on the verge of spilling what he'd just done when Guy suddenly came out with a story of his own. Claude felt his stomach grow cold, and some of his previous energy ebbed. "He didn't make it?" he echoed. "No ( ... )

It was as Guy had already guessed. Claude didn't even need to think for a split second about what they needed to do, and Guy hadn't finished explaining yet. Granted, he could do that on the way, but he was honestly touched by how willing Claude was to help. That was simply his nature, of course, and Guy realized that Okita and Claude were friends in their own right ( ... )

Claude could understand Guy's surprise. Hell, he hadn't expected to say that himself just five minutes ago ( ... )

Claude had healed himself? Guy hadn't even realized he was capable of such a thing, but the man went on to explain that it didn't involve heraldry. Recalling his own ability to heal himself, if only slightly, Guy was able to understand. What he didn't quite get was why Claude was suddenly capable of such a thing when he clearly hadn't been during the rest of his time here.

"But why would they be giving us any of our power back?" he asked with a frown. He didn't feel like there was a greater concentration of fonons around them, either. Trying to unleash an Arte in a cramped hallway wouldn't be a good idea, though, and he didn't have any injuries to try and heal, so he couldn't test it for certain. "Did it just come back to you suddenly?"

Honestly, it should have been a good thing, especially if there was a chance that if (when) they found Okita he was injured and in need of healing. If Claude was even capable of healing others -- but Guy was getting ahead of himself. The point was that this worried him more than it gave him hope, ( ... )

Even after hearing his story, Guy didn't seem to understand how Claude could have gained access to some of his original power. Did that mean he didn't feel any different? How could Claude be the only one to change like this, though?

"Um, yeah, while I was walking to your room," he answered, his expression growing more confused. "I thought if I could harness some of my energy, then maybe that device the military uses to control us was damaged somehow. But if it's just me, then..."

Well, it had been a nice thought. But that still didn't explain why Claude could use some of his more advanced techniques. While the injection from earlier may have possibly caused it, that didn't quite sound right, either. Weren't those supposed to have bad side effects?

Although he could have speculated about all that out loud, Claude grew quiet once Guy began to cut into his cast. He didn't want to accidentally distract his friend, especially while handling such a sharp blade so close to his arm.

If it was just Claude, then that had a whole series of other implications, didn't it? It meant that he had been singled out in some way, which made Guy even more concerned. Being able to heal was all fine and good, especially since they would be heading out tonight after all, but what if it came at some sort of price ( ... )

Claude was about to assure Guy that he felt fine, but stopped short when the cast suddenly fell apart. Although his fingers were splotched with bruises, and his movements still felt tender, he was able to stiffly curl his hand into a fist. His bones were no longer fractured. In other words, if he worse came to worst, and he needed to fight, he'd at least be able to wield his blade. He would just have to take care that his uninjured arm took the brunt of the sword's weight ( ... )

It was clear that Claude's hand wasn't completely healed, but from what Guy could remember of what he'd seen last night it was much better than it had been. He still knew that he should take point for the night, not wanting to force Claude into any fights if they could avoid it. Luckily, running away was usually an option. He didn't want to waste time on that sort of thing when he was busy searching for his roommate.

"No problem," Guy said with a shake of his head. It felt nice to put his sword to some use and he was particularly glad to see that it hadn't rusted after all of the water exposure the night before. Maybe it had been silly of him to worry, seeing how most things here got returned to normal by morning.

What Guy couldn't understand was how Claude could be so certain of the fact that it was a device and not something else entirely that was blocking their powers. He tilted his head at him curiously but realized that this was something better discussed while on the move ( ... )
