Night 57: M61-M70 Hallway

Sep 07, 2011 23:10

[M64]Hijikata finished his meal just as the doors unlocked themselves. Strange, that there were none of the usual announcements, but he wasn't going to take the time to dwell on it. He had a mission to accomplish. Setting the lighter down on the desk for the time being, he went back to his box and began pulling out the few things he was certain to ( Read more... )

Whatever this Code 1-8 was, it apparently didn't warrant a gloating peep out of the intercom. The silence was less strange for Aguilar than it had been for Martin Landel, but it was a sense of foreboding that Kirk peeked out of his room after the door unlocked. Part of him knew it would be smarter to stick around here in case any of the crew came looking for him, but having already spent an entire day snoozing in here, he was anxious for some fresh air. Well, fresher air. He remembered the last time he'd wandered outdoors by himself.

Clothed in his Starfleet uniform again, with flashlight and metal pipe in hand, Kirk went to look for his crew.

[In M63.]When the lights went off, Guy wasn't prepared for it. How could he have been, when he'd been waiting for an announcement to introduce it? For a moment he wondered if it was some sort of mistake, but in the end he realized that Aguilar wasn't in the mood to talk to them this time around. Or he was busy with that Code 1-8, whatever it was. Guy didn't have a good feeling about it, but he could also only worry about it too much. His thoughts were almost entirely on Okita ( ... )

((From here.))

By now, Claude had traveled to Guy's room enough times to have the way practically memorized. He didn't even have to read the numbers along the hall as he jogged to his friend's door. With a lot of his injuries soothed, he was able to move easier than even just a few minutes ago. Incredible!

After clumsily adjusting the sword in his hand, he gave a quick knock.

"Guy? It's me!" He probably didn't even have to announce himself at this point, but with how dangerous some of the captives here could be, Claude figured it was best to say something. Still, as he spoke, it was difficult to keep his voice normal and calm enough to hide his jumbled thoughts. The night had barely started, and so much had already happened!

Luckily, Guy didn't have to agonize over whether to stay put for too long, since a knock sounded and Claude's voice came from the other side of the door. Rather than giving his friend the go-ahead to come in, Guy went ahead and moved over to the door, opening it himself ( ... )

He'd been on the verge of spilling what he'd just done when Guy suddenly came out with a story of his own. Claude felt his stomach grow cold, and some of his previous energy ebbed. "He didn't make it?" he echoed. "No ( ... )

Having wasted the previous night by sleeping through it, Kurogane barely let any time escape as he prepared for this one. He was quickly through with his meal and into his outfit, ignoring what looks and quips his roommate had for him. All that had been left was awaiting the intercom's announcing of the night ( ... )

Oh god. Night had fallen and he was still awake. He wasn't sure if he was happy for it or not. It was better than being dragged off and tortured, sure, and he had to admit, with each time night fell he felt a surge of panic and fear that it might happen again, but even when he wasn't dragged off for unspeakable tortures, he wasn't exactly happy about nighttime. Maybe ZEX would have felt more confident, but as it was, Max felt frightened and alone. He didn't have much chance to ask Kirk if maybe he felt like sticking around either before he left.

Well, his room was always safe, right? He remembered that much... although, he reminded himself, safe from what exactly? He was sane now, he knew who he was and there were no... monsters or whatever roaming the halls eating people. That was insane. And there was no way his little mental hallucinations would manifest again and he'd start getting those cuts and scrapes out of nowhere... right? He was better now. Right? He shouldn't be scared of things that didn't exist ( ... )

[From here.]

Peter moved about halfway down the hall, using his flashlight to illuminate the numbers over each door. It wasn't hard to locate M66. He paused in front of the room for a moment, listening to see if there was any sign of Max inside, but it was fairly quiet. That didn't mean that he wasn't there, of course, but at least there weren't any worrying sounds like screaming or frightened breathing. He didn't like the thought that Max might have been sitting there scared and alone for a long time because of him.

Only one way to find out, of course. Adjusting the duffel bag of supplies that was hanging from his right shoulder once more (the uneven weight was kind of annoying, but he knew he'd get used to it), Peter reached out to knock on the door two times.

"Max? Are you in there? It's me, Peter." He wasn't going to barge in on the guy and so once that was done, he waited patiently.

Max started at the sound in spite of himself. It was fine, it was fine, it wasn't the staff coming to take him away again, it was just Peter. The surge of relief was nice, although the increasing frequency of the flickers in his peripheral vision was not. He was not seeing things, and even if he was, they couldn't hurt him, right? He was sane now, wasn't he? God, if it started happening again to him now he was going to freak out or something.

He got up to go open the door, hoping he didn't look too strung out. "Yeah, I'm here!" At least having someone else in here would make him less likely to get lost in his own thoughts. "Let me just get that..."

He opened the door, hoping his sigh of relief wasn't too dramatic. But really, it was nice to see someone! When he spent too much time alone he had a tendency to make bad decisions. He caught sight of the bag on Peter's shoulder, and tilted his head quizzically. "What do you have there?"

Peter sighed almost in unison with Max, glad to see that he was still here and seemed to be doing relatively well. It was hard to say just from a first glance and Peter could tell that he looked a little worn down, but weren't they all? The cuts on Max's face were still there, though that was no surprise. Peter figured they would have been healing a little faster, but ( ... )

Some time between dinner and lights out, the Doctor had actually fallen asleep. He woke with a jolt when the radio came to life, and barely any of the message it contained (something about sleeping and someone dying and running errands for Aguilar) registered as a single name crossed his mind with a wave of panic: Donna!

Her livid face was already swimming into view in his mind.

He'd scrambled to his feet in a matter of seconds, diving for the metal box sitting on his bed and pulling his coat and screwdriver from it-no time to change, not tonight, so only the coat overtop his uniform would have to do. He allowed himself another moment to double-check that the ring was in his coat pocket (it was), and then he dashed out the door.

The intercom came on with another announcement, while the Doctor wondered if Donna had really waited. He wondered if it would be better if she hadn't.
