Night 58: F21-30 Hallway

Sep 07, 2011 12:24

Normally, the lack of an intercom post would have registered as slightly ominous to Erika, at the very least. However, she was glad that there wasn't one, because it allowed her to focus on something else strange that was happening. Something else very strange... It was a feeling that she couldn't put her finger on, so she naturally came to the ( Read more... )

No new messages tonight. No threats, no bargain, nothing. The Code 1-8 had set of warning signals in Aigis' mind, but when there was nothing to follow up that ominous report she had let the matter fall out of her mind. If danger was to come, it would not be in their room at least.

Aigis has done her best to remain quiet during dinner. Ema still slept on in a feverish sleep, so it was best to not disturb her. Instead, Aigis used a page from her journal to write a short note ("Ema-san, if you wake up I will likely already be gone for the night. Please eat some of your dinner so as to regain your strength, and do be safe tonight. -Aigis") and placed it on her desktop, under her plush Schrodinger to catch Ema's attention. That done, Aigis then retrieved her claws from her own box, as well as Minato's Evoker. All of these she placed in her pockets, then she took up her dimming flashlight and proceeded out the door as quietly as possible ( ... )

It was quite surprising for Erika to find out that she did know who she was meeting tonight. A door opened and the former detective hardly had time to turn her head before noticing someone walk up before her, and once she was able to make out the other person's form, she realized that this woman was recognizable. To be specific, this was the woman whom she approached some time ago when she was investigating the nightly blackouts. Erika still hadn't really formed a proper theory for that, and now, she didn't have to. For all of eternity ( ... )

Aigis wondered if her question had been unnecessary after all. This girl seemed restless. All thoughts concerning the other's well-being fled, however, when she held out yet another Evoker. This time it was Yukari's for sure. And Aigis had returned it to her so recently, only to receive it again. Two Evokers. She did not need two, but she was not going to let the Evoker fall into obscurity either ( ... )

how are you on this lovely night... /eyebrow waggle witchdetective September 8 2011, 02:40:57 UTC
Whatever the object was, it was clear to anyone that it was a very important item to the girl, who held it close to her chest. Erika only rose a brow at this act of affection, wondering why it was so treasured to this girl. Either it was something she wanted or Yukari was a very important person to this girl. And then the girl attempted to offer an explanation on why the object was so important and what it was. Though she was clear... well, needless to say, Erika didn't quite get it. The urge to ask more, to tear apart this girl's strange explanation and expose the truth of the matter came, but it passed just as quickly when Erika looked back at the gun, and then to the ground ( ... )

After managing to handle the pink slush of her meal, Celty had spent the rest of her time before the doors unlocked trying to determine what she would do for the evening. Each time she'd gone out before, something had attacked her, or she'd gotten held up in a hallway before returning right back to her room the next morning. She had to try something different, something that might at least end up productive.

With the absence of an announcement though, Celty found no leads and could not help but wonder if the night was going to be different somehow.

Maybe the Radio will have something... she told herself before hitting up the desk for the device. She'd heard it only once, but knew that sometimes things were heard over it. Maybe that could give her something to go off of. A clue maybe. Hoping that an announcement would come soon, Celty settled onto her knees atop the bed, holding the radio before her and watching it intently.

The wait for a broadcast ended shorter than she had expected with the sounds of a person gasping. Her head tilted at the small black box. What the...? she thought before the actual voice came across, sounding just as exhausted as the pants had indicated. Guess he's got it rough too.

As she listened in, she noted how angry the man sounded about having lost someone, and how it had apparently been the fault of one of the patients. Celty knew herself that not all of those in the place had the best of intentions, so she had no reason to think that there would be those who would do things for the higher ups. The food choices already proved that the staff played favorites after all.

Unfortunately though, anger was the best she got from the man. He was upset and apparently out of ideas for what to do. What she could tell was that he was in the town - probably the one they'd visited in that outing. With the radio going silent, Celty lowered it to the sheets and lifted a hand to her chin.

It wasn't that far by bus, she recalled of the trip ( ... )

She'd barely taken a step outside of her own door when something drew her attention upwards - a flash of white that she hadn't been expecting. She blinked at the sight, or rather the empty space where... something had been, trying to decide if she had really seen it, or if her eyes were just playing tricks on her. They were newly returned after all. She was still even getting used to having to remember to blink!

Eventually she shook her head. Just my imagination... she determined before finally pressing onwards and out of the hallway.

She was a little more prepared this time, when the door unlocked. Her thumb clicked over the switch of the flashlight twice more, on-and-off, on-and-off; the tight beret was left on her desk. Her room number was already memorized, for when she would have to come back at the end of the night -- the girl had not yet realized that the blacking out of the night before would be the common way of things. She hadn't realized realized a lot of things.

The girl heard footsteps and ignored them, setting her own path in the darkness.

When Ema came to, it was with a sense of disorientation that she hadn't felt since she first arrived in the Institute. Unlike most mornings, a sense of grogginess followed her into consciousness. Also unlike most mornings, it was dark. Had she slept through the entire day? Multiple days? The possibility was disconcerting on many levels; not only was she out of the loop heading into the night, but she was beginning to show symptoms of release. If she was lucky, she'd be like Lana and no worse for the wear. If she wasn't, then... no, she had to stay positive. She was awake. She would stay awake.

Her flashlight was under her pillow where it always was, something for which Ema was grateful. Shinging its beam around the room, she found a familiar cat toy and a note on her desk:

"Ema-san, if you wake up I will likely already be gone for the night. Please eat some of your dinner so as to regain your strength, and do be safe tonight. -Aigis"Ema smiled as she read the note, even as she rubbed at her eyes and yawned. It was good to ( ... )

Nothing from either Intercom Men tonight? That was a change, but not significant enough to deter Maya. The mysterious code from the last intercom announcement she'd heard had been suspicious enough.

She had matters to investigate. She picked up her flashlight and pipe, said a brief "be careful" salutation to Rose, and then stepped out into the corridor.

Nothing seemed to have changed, but it was too early to say for sure. Maya would guess that, what with everyone getting rushed to their rooms, the general had wanted to install something-no doubt something nasty-but no more beyond that. The last-mentioned Medical Wing, perhaps?

Nothing could be achieved by staying here. Maya moved into the next hall.
