Day 58: Sun Room (Second Shift)

Aug 21, 2011 13:12

[From here.]The room was mainly empty when Michael reached it, which was fine by him. It wasn't that he didn't feel sympathy for the other patients, but he also didn't know if it would be helpful for him to talk to them. The staff seemed to think that forming bonds amongst themselves would lead to recovery, but to him it felt more like they would ( Read more... )

Talking to Lily had been a little relaxing, but made things more confusing than they already were. Lily admitted to the fact that people thought there were monsters here. And still said this place was extremely nice. Wouldn't she rather be home, though? It was possible she didn't have one, which might explain why she liked it. Mikado would rather ( ... )

[eventually from here]

...How had he ended up getting so distracted so easily? He had forgotten he was supposed to be hurrying in the showers so he could rush back out here and look around for Serah! He'd taken a lot longer than he'd wanted! And it was with that thought that he didn't complain about putting on the stupid, damn uniform for once. He couldn't say he cared at all right then.

Snow got dressed as quickly as possible, almost forgetting the stupid hat until one of the guys threw him this pissed off "I'm gonna lecture you for two hours" look. Yeah, right, fine. Hat. Shirt buttons. Shoes. WHATEVER. OUT OF THE DAMN WAY!

He practically bolted through the door separating the showers from the Son Room, where they were gathering everyone else. As he ran out the door, he'd started calling out for her in as loud a voice as he could manage.

"SER-!"

And that was all he managed to get out. Because after a few steps, he slammed right into someone who'd apparently been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

There existed a chain of events. One that Mikado could break down after the fact.

One. There had been a shout behind him, loud and deep and suddenly cut off, because- Two. The shouter had ran into him. Three. This caused the effect of Mikado being thrown suddenly and violently to the floor, half-hitting his head on a chair nearby. Four. This was caused by a seven-foot-tall muscular man. Who had been yelling. And had thrown him down with more force than Mikado had been prone to all his life just by running into him. Five.... He was really, really big. Like a paled out Simon. Simon who was extremely nice and yet Mikado had been warned against.

...He felt, somehow, that he would have been warned against this person, too.

Mikado shifted to a half-sitting position. "Ow, ow..." he muttered, rubbing at the side of his head. Maybe the giant would just ignore him and go on doing whatever he was doing. Having the attention of a guy like this was probably bad news.

Snow was so distracted, he hadn't noticed the kid standing there at all. In fact, despite being the one who'd plowed into the guy, Snow ended up internally startled by the sudden unexpected contact. His attention was pulled from the rest of the room and down toward the guy who'd actually been thrown to the ground by the hit. ...Oops.

"Whoa. Sorry 'bout that." Snow leaned forward and reached a hand out to help the kid up. There was a small, sideways grin on his face. "You alright there?"

No luck on that count. The man moved his attention to Mikado, grinning of all things. There was a part of Mikado that internally fearful. Such a large person who could be violent accidently grinning like that seemed something to worry about. Still Mikado half-extended a hand out of habit without thinking about it--getting yanked back to his feet within a second. His head still spun and he pressed his fingers into a temple.

"Ah...." Best thing would probably be to accept his apology and let him be on his way, but could it be possible this guy knew something as well? There was a bunch of people in this room. Mikado wasn't sure if he'd want to take his chances here. "It's all right. Though you should really look where you're going next time." He thought of Hope, the kid he met the day before--as well as some of the younger kids he'd seen here. "If you run into someone smaller than me, they'd end up getting really hurt."

...Okay, and up close, this guy was a lot bigger than Mikado had initially thought. He had to crane his head up to ( ... )

"Hey, hey. 'S not like I go runnin' into people all the time," he said, borderline laughing. Heh, could you imagine? Plowing into people all the time every day? That'd be pretty funny. "'S just that I was ( ... )

...Was this guy serious? Mikado watched him a little warily, then blinked in surprise as the guy suddenly switched tracks and started asking about a girl. A girl Mikado's size. While this guy was nearly twice that.

...Maybe he was asking about his sister. Hopefully.

"Uh," he considered as he thought back, then blinked. "I saw a girl with pink hair but it was like this." He mimed long straight hair down to his waist. "And she was taller than me, I think." So in the end, he wasn't really helpful at all. It seemed like there was a lot of pink haired girls here. Cosplay was really in style in fake mental institutions. "Sorry. Is she someone important to you?"

Nope, no go on that one. The girl this kid was talking about was taller and had much longer hair. Even if left loose, Serah's hair didn't go that far down. Definitely not her.

Snow wasn't going to let that discourage him at all though. It just meant he'd have to wait a little bit longer. He'd have to see if she came out of the showers. Man, did he hate waiting around, too. But... as impatient as he was, he wasn't impatient enough to go storming into the women's showers. Some things were too dangerous even for him.

In the meantime, he'd just focus on his conversation with the kid. Despite the negative response, Snow just nodded at the kid's question.

"My wife. Heh. To-be, anyway." He grinned and almost laughed again. "Heard she showed up here. So I figured it'd be better to find her than just stand around doin' nothing." Honestly, the last thing he ever wanted was for her to get caught up in all this mess, but that didn't matter now.

Wife... Was it. Mikado's eyes slid to the side. Maybe this man was that kind of person. It wasn't really Mikado's business in the end. Still he'd keep that in memory for awhile. Hopefully it wasn't something strange... Wife to-be reminded Mikado of Harima-san, and he wondered if the pink-haired girl had a stalker.

There might be other people to ask, but if this man had been here awhile, Mikado shouldn't waste the chance, despite the man's leanings. "I hope you find her, then. It seems hard to touch base with people here." He hadn't seen Celty or Shizuo yet, and there were a couple of people saying both were here. "Ah, but could I ask... Have you been here very long?"

heroesdontshave August 24 2011, 01:14:52 UTC
Hard to touch base here? Really? ... Actually, yeah. Now that he thought about it, the kid had a point. Sometimes it really was hard to find people and talk to them when you needed to. That was probably why people used the note note exchange system. The "bulletin board," right?

... Oh! Right! Why hadn't he thought of that?! If he couldn't find her in the huge mass of people, he could write her a note! If she was walking around, she'd have to see it eventually, right? Though... Lightning had said that she wasn't really... herself. But that didn't matter to him. He was sure that could be changed.

"Huh? Me? Not really. I been here a few days. Maybe a week." ...Actually, that sounded like a pretty damn long time now that he thought about it. He never wanted to spend this long stuck in a place like this. Had it really been that long since he'd been brought in?

The man seemed very distracted. Still, Mikado tried to persevere. If this man didn't know anything, Mikado could look around elsewhere in the room. "That's longer than me," he admitted. "I've only been here for a day. And have been trying to figure out what's going on."

If Mikado took what seemed to be the consensus, this was a military run fake mental institution? That did weird experiments, not the least of which creating monsters out of animals, and, uh. Put heads back on people that didn't have them.

...Right. He half-sighed to himself, then checked himself, glancing up sharply. "Ah, I'm Ryuugamine Mikado. It's, uh, nice to meet you." Meet a translation for be ran into by your elbow.

A day? Whoa. So this kid had only recently been caught and thrown in here, huh? Judging by his looks, he was just a regular civilian, too. It was so messed up that they kept choosing this kind of people for their stupid little project. I mean, yeah, a Pulse army prison wasn't exactly a good place for anyone, but the least they could do was bring in people who could handle this kind of stuff. Why do they keep grabbing normal civilians? He kind of felt bad for the kid now ( ... )

There was a beat of a frozen countenance, a tight rigor mortis smile as his mind attempted to catch up with the giant of a man. Mikado, of course, kept to habits and took in his name first. Snow. Snow, Hope, Japan, and Lily. It seemed like a few had names that were possibly aliases--and if they weren't, their parents were eccentric individuals. This soaked in for a minute, while his instinct half-denied the nickname.

...Ryuu?

Mikado tilted his gaze up, past Snow towards the skylight set in the ceiling. This place... was infinitely strange. And far too Western. His culture shock was lagging far behind his experiences. "Ah..." He half-meant to correct Snow, then simply dropped it. He suddenly didn't have the energy to explain. Instead he attempted an open look at the man, likely coming through half-pained in the attempt. "Thank you. It is really confusing. Do you know what goes on at night at all?"

It really wasn't easy being the new guy. That was true no matter where you were, but it was even more true here. Things were more complicated than they looked at first glance. So really, Snow had his hands full trying to explain no matter what it was the guy ended up asking about. But that one sure was a doozy.

"Uh. Well. Lotta things happen at night." He put his hands on his hips and tilted his head a little, trying to figure out where the hell to even start. "They're tryin' to get us into this little army plan of theirs whether we like it or not. Once it hits lights out? That's basically training time ( ... )

All right. The army plan lined up with other things that had been said, at least. Training time... Mikado hoped that was a turn of phrase and not literal. Because actual training of any sort wasn't wanted. The physical aspect was far too daunting to even consider. (Horror memories of gym in his younger years at school had permanently been etched into his mind, after all--in a small town, you never lived anything down once it was done. Especially if it was getting stuck halfway up a climbing rope. Or failing a timed lap. Or... He really didn't want to think about this ( ... )

Yeah, definitely 100% civilian. Just like most everyone who got caught up in The Purge. Women, kids, people who'd never so much as been in a fight before let alone handled a gun. Or had one pointed at them. Watching Ryuu's reaction gave him that same sort of impression. Monsters weren't normally something people dealt with much unless they were on the outskirts of town or a member of GC. Was it any wonder he looked worried ( ... )
