Day 58: Sun Room (Second Shift)

Aug 21, 2011 13:12

[From here.]The room was mainly empty when Michael reached it, which was fine by him. It wasn't that he didn't feel sympathy for the other patients, but he also didn't know if it would be helpful for him to talk to them. The staff seemed to think that forming bonds amongst themselves would lead to recovery, but to him it felt more like they would ( Read more... )

[From here.]With most of the room to choose from, Zack went ahead and picked a couch near the middle of the room to sit on. He was positioned right under the glass roof, which almost gave the impression that he was outside. He already missed the free choice from the day before, but he realized that the staff couldn't wait too long before allowing them outside again ( ... )

It wasn't hard for Rose to pick where she was spending the rest of the morning - somewhere that gave her the most daylight. She headed for the Sunroom, considering she didn't want to deal with the actual cold for the moment. This was the second best option.

It turned out to be a good choice when she spotted Zack across the room, scribbling on some papers. The sight had her smiling faintly as she crossed the room to sink down on the couch beside him, not missing the fact that he'd apparently hit the showers first thing as well. She didn't blame him at all. If she'd felt awful this morning, she couldn't imagine how he'd felt.

"Taking advantage of having thumbs again, are you?" she teased him gently as she grabbed a pillow and curled herself around it, her arms snugly tucked about its center. "How are you feeling this morning?"

Well, there was the person he'd been looking for. It figured that the second he stopped keeping an eye out she showed up. Zack glanced up from what he was writing to send her a smile, noting from her hair that she must have just washed off too. It was good to see that she seemed to be just fine now -- there was no fear in her eyes and the tenseness had left her body.

"You bet I am," he replied with a laugh. "But really, I have to say, I feel great. I didn't even know if I'd be back to myself when I woke up, so I was pretty thrilled when everything was back where it should be." And as far as he could tell, nothing had been misplaced when he'd been put back together. He was just glad that he didn't actually remember changing back, since it wasn't like he needed to go through that pain twice.

"What about you?" She wasn't jumpy, but it also wasn't dark in here. Still, he was guessing that if his side effects had worn off completely then Rose's probably had too. "A shower can really make all the difference, can't it?"

She gave him a crooked smile, settled comfortably on the sofa. "It can. I think it's probably the only thing that could have, this morning."

Especially after breakfast with Damon and Alaric this morning. Normally she could get along better with Damon's comments and sense of humor, but she'd been raw this morning, and feeling vulnerable. Not a good time to be around this particular Salvatore brother. At least, not as he was now. It made her miss her friend even more, now that that balance was unsettled and missing again. She stifled a sigh, wondering if she'd ever get it back.

"I'm glad you're feeling better, though," she added, derailing her own trail of thought before she depressed herself again. "No lingering side effects, I hope? Mine seemed to fade when I woke up this morning, but it's not really dark and scary at the moment, either. I suppose I'll have to wait and see how things are tonight. And no more experimentation with unlabeled drugs in the future, I think."

Morning. When Kairi awoke in her bed, she almost swore that last night had been a dream. They had really gone into the Medical Ward, right? The Princess rubbed her eyes, quickly catching the view of the new uniform. Augh, so it was back, meaning that horrid MU pin was also back. She wanted nothing more than to forget that night, and wished she could rip it off ... but alas. Sighing, she carefully got out of bed, and moved towards the door ( ... )

It wasn't that he wanted to stall before finding Kairi, because he saw her the moment he walked into the Sun Room. Some might say that he had a radar for his friends. If they were in a room, he could find them-except the night prior proved otherwise. But Riku would blame that on just having woke up. She looked tired from a distance, and he just assumed it confirmed the fact that she hadn't gotten breakfast. If she had missed him and Sora, it might've been unusual, but he knew after a point he had been too caught up in talking to keep looking around ( ... )

If Kairi hadn't known any better, she would have thought she had fallen asleep and was dreaming at the sound of Riku's voice. "No one will ever be as lazy as Sora," she said simply, not exactly realizing that she was speaking to the real thing, instead of a dream. That was ( ... )

Her question wasn't met with surprise, but instead, a comforting smile. Riku already knew it was coming, and given his experience with memory games back home, he figured he could handle them around this place. He knew about the problems relating to that, and he figured his friends were relieved he was here. But it was good he remembered stuff. Riku didn't like the idea of his memories being messed with all the way back in Castle Oblivion. There was a choice there granted to him by Naminé; it was a choice that he could have taken, but he knew today that Sora wouldn't be the way he was now, and he had no idea if Kairi would even be safe. Losing his memories wasn't his idea of a useful time ( ... )

[From here.]

The shower had done a good job of loosening up his muscles, at least, which was something he probably needed after all the stress that he had been under lately. It just made him want to find somewhere to sleep, though, which was honestly the only thing he'd wanted to do when he'd come to his morning. That hadn't been an option -- staying in his room, that is -- but maybe here...

Sleeping through the day was a waste of time and he knew that, but he'd given it his all in terms of trying to make progress these past few days and where had it gotten him, exactly? Not very far.

Instead, he was walking through the Sun Room with the knowledge that he wouldn't catch Jones from across the room. The guy was probably already hacked up into pieces by now, raw materials for their mad science experiments. The thought was enough to turn his stomach, and Harvey had to clamp down and make sure that he didn't lose the few bites of gruel he'd eaten at breakfast.

Besides, the burn of vomit on his charred fleshed would not be pleasant ( ... )

God dammit. Even when he was passed out on a couch and covering most of his face, that still didn't make it clear enough to these people that he did not want to be bothered.

In fact, Harvey almost thought about acting like he hadn't heard the other man speak at all. The only thing that stopped him from doing that was that he recognized the voice. Well, that and the fact that "pointy ears and bowl cut" sounded beyond ridiculous.

Pulling his arm up off of his eyes, Harvey glanced up at the other patient, realizing that it was in fact the doctor who he'd spoken to a few times in the past. Mainly to give him a hard time, though part of him was surprised that the man was still here. He seemed like the sort of patient that would have been weeded out by now.

"Pretty sure I would have remembered something like that," he grumbled, still stubborn enough that he wasn't sitting up to make room for McCoy. "Why the hell would I have seen him?" He was beyond a point where he was interested in even pretending to be polite.

McCoy scowled back at him. It wasn't like it was Dent's fault that he was having these problems or the fact that McCoy was dragging his feet, as if he were going in for one of the old style forms of dentistry, the barbaric kind that involved putting drills and little picks into your mouth. 'Course it wasn't like McCoy had been completely rude with him from the start either. Butting in his business and asking him where Spock was might not be the most polite way to greet someone, but you'd think someone had told him he was expected to work triple shifts ( ... )

[From here.]

Other people's moods were not something Gabriel ever factored into his actions. Of course, it was hard to say whether how much other people factored into anything he did.

Also, he was ignoring how irrationally angry he was at his brother. Or Aguilar. Okay, not so irrational there. At dad. At everything. Obviously Lucifer wasn't the only brother who'd gotten the tantrum genes. Imagine being a genie and then being put into a bott - oh god, this place was sucking out his ability to make witty metaphors. Soon enough he was going to not remember how to do the Trickster job, and what a shame that would be. It wasn't like there was anyone else lining up to pick up the Loki mantle.

Though, post-Apocalypse, probably no one would have to.

Boom. There was Castiel. Angel-dar worked like a charm, even if he was stuck staring at human faces instead of what he knew was behind them. Without much ado, Gabriel skirted around the edge of the couch, plopping way too close to his brow-wrinkled brother, putting an arm around his shoulders ( ... )

The weight that settled first onto the couch next to him and then onto his shoulders startled Michael enough that his eyes shot open, taking in a face that was so familiar it hurt. He barely heard any of the words that came out of the other man's mouth besides the first one; he'd always called him that, but it had been so long since they'd talked like this, with such familiarity. An odd closeness.

It was his brother.

"Noah," he blurted out, the normal hard expression on his face replaced with both shock and uncertainty. Of course he "remembered" what had happened last night, not to mention all of the conversations that he'd had with his brother during the week spent here, but he'd just assumed that those were intense hallucinations borne out of homesickness. He hadn't ever expected that Noah was actually hereIn fact, it was possible that he was still seeing things, making all of this up with just a bit more clarity in his head. Michael didn't think that was it, though, and the thought that Noah was just as sick as him, if not more ( ... )

Excuse his French, but. "What."

He seemed to be saying that a lot lately. There hadn't been a lot of times where he was honestly confused, considering divine knowledge and holy foresight.

The one word shouldn't have been that confusing, right? Castiel wasn't the first one to call him by that name. Everyone and their damn mother in a uniform seemed to be trying to hop on the fake name train, and for the girl... well, he hadn't cared enough to correct her. It was pretty irrelevant when she was dead, anyway.

Two problems, though.

1) He had never shown Castiel his dog tag. Ignoring the fact he was wearing it now, his brother was staring at him, not his necklace. He had never told Castiel his "name", either.

2) Castiel was allergic to jokes.

He also didn't have the ability to look surprised. For the love of -

"Eeeh. Wrong. Try again."

This was all wrong. While his brother seemed just as confused as he was, that was probably because he was still of the belief that they were both angels serving under God. Though as Michael thought about it more, he started to see the parallels between reality and what he'd made up. Noah had cared for him (in his own way) up until a point when things between their family had gotten too tense and then he'd completely cut himself off. Michael realized he was guilty of the same thing to an extent, but Noah had literally moved across the country to get away from them all. He hadn't answered his phone; he'd even changed his last name to get away from them ( ... )

[from here]

Lamperouge was already in the Sun Room when Javert arrived. The boy looked almost as out of place in the new uniforms as he did--no doubt he'd have his own opinions on the recent change.

There had been no inquiries on the board in Lamperouge's handwriting this morning, which meant that he must have returned yesterday or the night before, when Javert had found himself indisposed. Damned bad luck to be caught out by the staff his first night back--or had the experiment Lamperouge mentioned taken place before his disappearance? There was little use in speculating when his answer was sitting right in front of him.

He inclined his head in a short nod of acknowledgment as he dropped into the couch directly opposite, pushing his still-damp hair out of his face. "M. Lamperouge. I trust you're up to speed on recent events?"

Javert inclined his head again; he had expected nothing less, and if Lunge had been there to inform him, then all the better. "If you have any further questions about the situation at the institute, I shall do my best to answer them."

But that was a minor distraction; Lamperouge could acquire most of the answers he sought from other people. It was better if they got to the point straightaway. So Lamperouge had been taken last night--although that admission raised more questions than it answered.

"I believe you mentioned that, yes. Let's cut to the chase, shall we? Start at the beginning, if you please."
