Night 57: Medical Wing Hall

[From here.]

Now that they had accomplished the one thing that Castiel had been set on doing for the night, he was left to ponder what to do next. It was rare for him to get something done here and then have extra time to do what he would with, but he had no intention of wasting the chance now that he had it.

"Was there something in particular you were interested in searching for?" he asked Donna as they both exited the infirmary. There was a set of doors right across from them that they could easily look into, but what would be the most efficient course of action?

Castiel realized that they could go in search of medical supplies, but as an angel he had little idea of how to use any of it. He'd seen Sam and Dean stitch and bandage their wounds plenty of times, but he'd never paid it much attention. That was yet another skill that he would have to learn, and the thought itself was tiring.

"Not really..." she sighed, almost disappointed that nothing had happened after taking on the General's challenge. "Just wanted to stick it to whoever's in charge in case he reared his probably ugly head with this test thing." Donna thumbed back over her shoulder at the Infirmary, admitting her motives. She didn't usually go waltzing head first into traps, but something about how their new "host" spoke to them gave her every reason to challenge him, even if through one that the man had prepared himself.

"But hey, I haven't been in this place before. There's gotta be something worth grabbing for later, right?" she suggested, glancing around. As this was a hospital and they'd just found what amounted to the ICU, there must have been some strong meds or huge needles just setting out somewhere. Unless the staff was smart, which she really didn't want to credit to any of the white coat wearing idiots. "Oh, and if anything happens from those meds? I'm blaming you."

The thought that taking the drugs might actually cause Aguilar to show himself seemed unfounded. A number of patients other than them had clearly taken the risk, so why would the general have showed up for them specifically? Castiel kept these thoughts to himself, however. He knew they would only upset Donna. Humans felt a need to constantly rationalize, to explain their rash actions despite the fact that they were hardly ever rooted in logic. He, at least, had known what he'd been hoping to gain all along, and that was a weapon ( ... )

Donna had seen the recovery rooms as well and also thought they weren't the best place to start unless they wanted a whole lot of gauze. Then again, bandages weren't all that bad an idea given how much people got beat up here. Thinking some on it, she saw that they really had two options. "Ok, so which is more important: getting lots of meds, gauze and bandages for after getting munched on by monsters, or seeing if we can snatch something more pointy for before getting teeth marks?"

Big no-brainer, that one.

"And that's beside the point," Donna shot back, "You took them first and nothing happened. but if something happens to you later, then it's false advertising, and I'm the one paying for it with God knows what!" And really, she would just need someone to blame in the general area. To take it out on. "Least I'll get fair warning..." she added under her breath to little comfort.

The question she asked wasn't one that was difficult for Castiel to answer. "Seeing how this area is far more likely to have medical supplies than any sort of weaponry, I'd say that we should focus our efforts on looking for the supplies." Not to mention the fact that one of the prizes for playing into Aguilar's challenge was a weapon, so it seemed pointless to waste time searching for one ( ... )

Donna made a face when he turned back her logic and huffed, "Well sorry, but some of us are human and like being able to defend ourselves." Whatever he was, Donna had a feeling he was a bit more durable than her. "And didn't that message say we'd get a weapon or something? Wouldn't put it past those in charge to stash any 'rewards' around as a way to mess with us," she added, waving a finger up to indicate the intercom ( ... )

The way that Donna seemed to take some sort of joy out of contradicting everything single thing that he said and make these baffling leaps in logic was enough to test Castiel's nerves more and more. He was doing what he could to hold onto his patience as he had to remind himself that she was likely a civilian that was not used to such situations, but ( ... )
