Here, Rita turned her flashlight on and left it on. Since this was going to be their meeting place, it was important that she made sure it was clear of enemies or other dangers.

Once she was reasonably sure that the area wasn't hiding anything too dangerous, she was finally able to address another important issue: she was really ( Read more... )

Rita returned from the pantry with a backpack full of food and her arms filled with more of the same. Carrying the haul, she sat down near the refrigerator door, opened a bag of chocolate chip cookies, and began to snack on those. Next to her were some apples and a bunch of bananas.

She'd gotten through several cookies before hearing a loud crash from nearby. Rita shot to her feet and reached for her chain. It sounded like it came from the other pantry... Either someone sneaked in past her while she was collecting food, or there was a monster clamoring to get out. She'd have to stay on guard in case it was the latter.

"Oh! Then what are we waiting for?" Taura vaulted a table, to show those nasty tables who was in charge around here, and followed him into the kitchen.

It looked like they might really get through tonight, without a single attack. Rita was sitting by the door, munching on some cookies, and the only thing she could hear sounded like voices from inside one of the pantries.

What use was offering better food for services rendered when there was plenty around, unless that was what they really meant? Taura wasn't going to starve, even if Rita refused to share.

"May we join you?" Taura grinned. They needed to get moving, but the fact that they'd all made it here without a fight was something to celebrate. Excepting Son Goku's little table skirmish, of course.

Goku followed Taura in, rubbing his head and his stomach together. It was annoying to be so easily bruised in this place. Usually it took a bullet to land him back on his butt, and even then it rarely blemished his skin! So now half his face was red from the impact and his stomach was growling like a feral animal at the sudden onslaught of smells.

"Man, I'm sooo hungry!" He whined despite Taura's voiced question on the matter and plopped down on the ground between the two girls. If he didn't get food right this minute, he would be useless in a fight.

Good; the others had arrived. Not that there was much good about having to put up with that obnoxious brat for the rest of the night, but at least she wasn't going to be kept waiting.

With a small sigh, Rita settled back down into a sitting position. She gave a nod to Taura. "Might as well. I don't want anyone slowing us down because they're too hungry to move." She pushed the bag of cookies forward to offer it to the others. For herself, she picked up a banana out of the fruit she'd brought out and began to peel it.

"And just so you know, I've been hearing weird noises from that pantry," she explaining, turning her head in the direction of the pantry door to indicate which one she meant. "It could just be patients, but we should keep an eye on it if we're going to linger here for a few minutes." Rita hoped they wouldn't loiter for longer than that, though. They did have a goal to achieve, so once their stomachs were reasonably satisfied, they had to get moving.

On her way over, Taura grabbed a frying pan. She'd broken the plaster around the doorlast night with her throwing star, but it wasn't the right tool for the job. The big, blunt handle of the pan was perfect, and the fact that it didn't need to survive the encounter even more so. She walked over and planted it in the wall like it was made of sealing foam rather than concrete and plaster, just above where the lock went into the wall from the door. Then she yanked it out, raining bits down. "I wasn't planning on hanging around. We can eat and walk, can't we?" That she addressed to Goku, not Rita, since the little boy seemed to have forgotten they were headed anywhere but the kitchen.

She knew the feeling, but he'd promised to help. "I'm not going to slow us down, but I could use a snack." She'd want the calories after if it came to a fight, and the easiest way to carry them was in her stomach. She popped two cookies in her mouth at once, and chewed as she renewed her assault on the hapless wall ( ... )
