Soma nodded once, standing up to take stock of her things. She'd exchanged her boots for the sturdier pair in her closet and discarded the beret; it would only get in the way. Tucking the handgun into her waistband, she strapped the katana to her back with her strip of bedsheet, then picked up her flashlight and ring in one hand.

"I think you have to be touching the person in order to take them with you," she said, reaching out and taking Mele's arm with her free hand without preamble. "It makes sense, anyway."

She considered the ring for a moment--what was there in this room that could possibly smash a stone?--before she knelt and brought the ring down sharply against the floor. There was a faint shattering noise, and before she could react, the room had dissolved around both of them.
