Night 56: West Wing, South Hall 1-A

[From here.]As Castiel exited the room block he'd been assigned to, it occurred to him that Gabriel had not caught up with him this time around. That was for the best. He had a difficult time shaking his brother off in this place, seeing how he couldn't disappear at the snap of a finger. If he'd had to bring his brother along on his lesson with ( Read more... )

[From here.]

Here he was again. Right back where he'd been yesterday. Almost the exact same spot, actually. Lightning had walked by and Zack had been forced to assume that Cloud had moved on without him. He wasn't going to give up so easily tonight, though. If his friend didn't walk out of those doors in a minute or two, then he'd just go straight to his room now that he knew which number it was.

Zack was nothing if not persistent. It wasn't that he thought Cloud was avoiding him, but they hadn't planned a successful meet-up since before the blond had lost his memories. It was enough to make a guy worry.

He'd give Cloud some time to get out here on his own before hunting him down, though, and so Zack leaned himself against the wall just as he had last night. He flipped the short sword around in his hand, waiting for his friend to show.

[Waiting for Cloud.]

[ From here. ]He hadn't had a run-in with something in the halls here yet that wasn't human, but he had a feeling that luck would only last so long. He didn't have a weapon, after all ( ... )

Zack was filled with relief when he watched Cloud step out of that door, shining his flashlight around -- always cautious, like a good SOLDIER should be. He couldn't help smirking at that thought, since at this point, after all they'd been through, it sounded like some kind of bad joke. And yet that didn't stop him from being proud ( ... )

Cloud nodded with a quiet smile, wondering at how easily it came despite the uncertainty he was feeling. Or had been feeling, really. Sure, there was a decided ambivalence to his thoughts concerning the fact that he'd been here once before without being able to recall it -- there was no way he'd be entirely comfortable with that, not until he found out exactly what had been done to him to make him forget ( ... )

So Cloud had successfully found Tifa. That was a relief, since Zack hadn't been so lucky himself. It was better this way, that Cloud had been the one to find her. Not that Zack could really explain why, but the two of them were childhood friends and had clearly been through a lot together, whereas his interaction with Tifa was muddled at best ( ... )

It had been a hunch to guess Zack had received the sword from Tifa's roommate (because there was always the possibility that he'd gotten it from someone else), but apparently he'd been right. It probably meant that Lightning had the other sword, unless she'd given it to someone else ( ... )

If they had been able to have lunch together and Cloud hadn't mentioned any injuries, then Zack could assume that the Tifa was doing fairly well. It wasn't the sort of thing that his friend would have lied about or misconstrued, after all, and so Zack just nodded along with the explanation ( ... )

The sigh made his brows twitch in concern, made him glance back up at his friend to check his expression -- but there wasn't anything Cloud could read there to make him worry, not right away. Or... maybe he wasn't reading it right. Which was always possible; they hadn't seen each other for years -- ... sort of. Apparently, it had only been a week ( ... )

Zack was glad that Cloud agreed, but there was so much to get caught up on that the very thought was daunting. There was never enough time to talk during the daytime shifts, but at night Zack wanted to be on the move, which wasn't really conducive to a drawn out discussion. He was sure that if they ever did get around to a talk like that, some pretty serious topics would come up. That didn't seem like the sort of talk to have while wandering through dark hallways ( ... )

It seemed his friend was thinking along the same lines as he was, with the way he glanced down the shadowy passageway as well. And then Cloud blinked. Monsters, he'd expected to hear about, but brainwashed patients was one he hadn't seen coming. Giving it a moment's thought, though, it made complete sense; manipulating otherwise normal people and using them as fodder wasn't new to him, after all ( ... )

"A few, yeah," Zack admitted, though he wasn't interested in making a big deal out of it. Fighting monsters was more or less his job back home (or it had been, anyway), and so he only shrugged. The brainwashing was a bit more out of the ordinary, and yet it honestly fit in pretty well with some of the crap that he'd dealt with before waking up here ( ... )
