The day progressed, and still the Digimon had maintained a casual air despite herself, moving around the town to take note of the going-ons instead of see to something herself. He started to answer just as they entered the hardware store, "No, I'm not from around here; I'm not even from this country... And like you, I'm used to a larger city." Much larger; small places like this were quaint enough to visit, but he much preferred the life of the city where so many humans gathered.

Now that they'd arrived at the hardware store, Izaya headed for the first aisle. He wasn't entirely sure what he was looking for; it had to be cheap, obviously, but other than that... He supposed he'd just browse until he saw something that caught his fancy. And even if he didn't find something in the end, it wouldn't be a wasted effort in the least as long as their conversation continued.

Well, there was something, right? Izaya was used to large cities, too. So even if he was from Pulse, he probably would feel at least a little out of his element in a little place like this, too, he guessed. In a way, they were both outsiders then. ...He felt kind of ridiculous thinking about any of that stuff all of a sudden. Cause really. It was probably a liiittle more than uncomfortable being caught and thrown in some prison no matter where the hell you were originally from. As long as they were all prisoners, they were all equals as far as Snow was concerned. ...Right. Yes. That made sense ( ... )

Izaya considered the idea of not being the only one who was far from home quietly for a moment, making a soft sound in his throat. It didn't make much of a difference to him whether or not he was the only one-even though he knew he wasn't-but the statement must have been more meaningful for Villiers. Between that and mistaking Izaya for a local, perhaps he thought that where everyone here came from wasn't such a disparate spread as Izaya himself believed ( ... )
