Day 56: Megahits Movies (Noon)

May 08, 2011 16:55

In all honesty, Zack would have been happy to have spent the whole rest of the day with Cloud. He didn't see what was wrong with that, but he also realized that it might seem suffocating to his friend, and more than that, Cloud had wanted to go find Tifa. Even then, it might have been better for them to stick together, but ( Read more... )

While spending the morning outside in the snow and away from most people had definitely been the calm that he needed in order to organize some thoughts (not all of them), after a few hours the shaking had been something he couldn't seem to get rid of. He couldn't seem to feel his fingertips anymore, even after shoving them in his pockets and then blowing on them from time to time, trying to warm his hands up ( ... )

Zack was looking at a particular "DVD" (that was what it was called, according to the box) called Saving Private Ryan when he heard the door open. Turning around, he almost expected it to be someone he knew, mainly because of the way that Cloud had just walked up beside him that morning ( ... )

He startled for a moment, not having expected anyone to actually... talk to him. He had noticed the way the villagers seemed to avoid him as he was walking through town, and had figured it would be the same... well, everywhere ( ... )

Hmm. Yeah, definitely still on the young side of things if he was taking everything literally like that. It was kind of endearing in its own way, although Zack noticed that the boy had failed to give his name. Either he hadn't realized he should or he was hiding it for a reason. Zack kind of hoped it was the former ( ... )

"Oh." He shifted awkwardly at the explanation, not sure to be embarrassed or not about not catching that. But he had never been really good at talking to people, and being here now was no exception. The prospect of warming up under the heater seemed to perk him up a bit, though, enough to have him nodding and talking again, still holding on tightly to the paper bag he had been given ( ... )

So that answered a thing or two. Zack didn't know how new the boy was, but it was new enough that he hadn't been here for even a week. Granted, a week was a long time in this place, but still, it gave him a little more information about the kid. He followed after him, also enjoying the warmth that came from overhead. He rubbed his hands together before putting them in his pockets ( ... )

Recognize the town? The store? He glanced over to the shelves and scanned the titles and pictures on the boxes of... movies? Was that what those were? All those posters advertising... this wasn't a theatre at all; it seemed to be selling movies in boxes, although Hope couldn't understand why. Why would anyone want movies in boxes when it was easier to access it from home on datalogs?

...Still. Another world. For all he knew, well, he hadn't seen a computer around. Either way, he had never seen any of those movies before, and had certainly never encountered that type of merchandise.

"These are movies, right?" He wasn't entirely sure, but that's what it looked like. Entertainment, at least. He had watched enough movies while younger to guess that easily. Still, he reached out to pick up one of the oddly shaped boxes, fingers still red and tingling from the sudden blood-flow again. "Why are they in boxes?"

It must be another world. Everything here was too strange for it to be home. The people here, snow, this town... even the movies.

At the question, Zack both nodded and shrugged. The sign outside had said something about "movies," but he wasn't familiar with the term. There was television back on Gaia, but he'd never seen shows advertised in boxes like this. He could only assume that they filmed things like Loveless and then sold them for home consumption, but ( ... )

At that, he ducked his head slightly to try and hide the smile; the first one since he got here, and possibly the first one in... the last few days. Since that night at the fireworks when everything had been... okay, at least. Not great, but at least things had been normal back then. It wasn't as if the situation wasn't as bad as it was before (it was, and he knew that), but at least there was... someone who didn't seem too heavy-hearted about it ( ... )

Oh, was that a smile he just saw? Maybe this kid wasn't a lost cause after all. Zack wasn't sure what it was out of what he'd said that had earned him that response, but he figured he was on the right track now. His own smile grew larger in response.

Seeing that the boy was inspecting the box with just as much curiosity and confusion as he had, Zack simply leaned against the closest shelf (carefully, so as to not knock all of the boxes off; that wouldn't go over well with the townspeople) and watched him. Discovering all of this with someone else made it a little more fun, though he was thinking that it'd be best to leave this store soon. There was no point in buying anything here, after all ( ... )

He nodded in response, looking up again from where he had placed the box down. He felt better here now that he could feel his fingers again, even if they were tingling still. The outside cold would probably suck with wet clothes, but he didn't want to stay one place for too long right now. Especially not knowing where he was. He had to explore, to figure more things out; couldn't stay still, not for too long. Not in one place.

"I can go," He had just come into the store to warm up, after all, and despite everything, he had managed to warm up again. One thing he had learned from living in the only city with shops had been that people never liked people who loitered around and didn't buy anything. He looked toward the door at the flurry of snow outside and took a moment more to think about it. It wasn't as if anyone here really cared about who he was back home, right? And with the amount of friendly people he had met here (not that many, but it still outnumbered the amount of friendly faces at home exponentially), it was a good idea ( ... )

It wasn't as if Zack had been trying to urge the kid out, but they wouldn't have to bear the cold for long and it made sense to check out as many areas as they could, especially if the boy was brand new to this place. This movie store had been interesting enough, but it hadn't managed to hold his attention for very long. Zack realized that wasn't always an easy task with him, but still ( ... )
