Night 55, Main Hallway 2-West

Apr 10, 2011 22:18

[from here]No one else was up here yet, at least not in sight. The hall off to his left still seemed almost to pulse with the unnatural quiet, as if it were a dark blot on Mello's mental map of the place. He didn't so much as swing the flashlight beam towards it; he turned quickly away, heading for the closet where he'd got his pipe. It seemed so ( Read more... )

"So your people and humans have known about each other for a long time?" she aksed, pointing the flashlight beam down the hall and squinting into the dimness, which still felt weird to do with two eyes. It sounded like a more complicated relationship between the two species than what usually happened in her world. The first aliens she knew of visiting Earth had just blasted everything, which wasn't exactly the live-and-let-live way things were in New New York now. In fact, it was pretty much the opposite of that.

"I'm only humanoid in my usual body. I'm a mutant, and we don't exactly interact with humans, usually. I thought I was the only one-eyed alien on Earth for the longest time." It felt pretty good to open up to someone who was capable of understanding how that felt on a more than intellectual level.

"I've been to when we didn't have space flight, but that was kind of a special case. It was actually way before I was born."

Hopefully his invisible tormentors wouldn't ruin his chances at gaining another human pet tonight. They did seem to have the worst timing, but maybe they'd leave him alone for a while now.

Worked for someone who actively wished for her death... that didn't sound like the Ur-Quan, who if nothing else were not wasteful. The Umgah maybe, if they thought it'd be funny, and the Ilwrath wouldn't waste that much time. "Why work for someone who's trying to kill you? Do you not have a choice?" Were the humans of her world enslaved to some other force? That'd be a pity.

"Yes, although our relationship has not been... very positive. There are always exceptions," ZEX was quick to point out, "and not all of my people vomit at the sight of yours! Just... many of them, but there are those of us who are far more intelligent and respectful, and we harbor a deep admiration for your species." ZEX could go on about this all day, he really could. Although, hadn't she mentioned something about being humanoid"A mutant?" ZEX said, with a touch of wonder in ( ... )

"Oh, the professor's not actually that bad. He just keeps volunteering us for life-threatening missions. He's a mad scientist, what can you do?" She shrugged. "Apart from the complete disregard for safety regulations, it's not a bad job. And someone has to keep my idiot co-workers from getting themselves killed."

Vomiting at the sight of humans? Leela stifled a giggle at the idea, which she didn't think ZEX completely meant as a joke, and which actually made a certain amount of sense. If horrible gelatinous blobs were, well, horrible to humans, she could see a creature completely unused to hair, or fingers, or a lack of antennae, finding humans pretty gross-looking ( ... )

That certainly didn't sound like someone that ZEX would want to work under. You could not take unnecessary risks in his field of work, and he'd done his best to make sure that all soldiers under his command hadn't died in vain ( ... )
