They ended up going back the direction he'd come. It was a bit counter intuitive for Zack, but he just reminded himself that he might end up with a proper weapon at the end of all this. He wondered if they were heading toward Snow or that "someone else" that Lightning had mentioned. She'd implied that the unnamed person would be first, but who knew? He didn't see anyone waiting around for them in the hall, so...
Pausing for a moment, Zack figured it was best to ask. "Where to from here?"
Lightning took the confident comment in stride, reacting neither positively or negatively as she continued down the hallway. She had no reason to disbelieve he could handle himself- he had mentioned being in the military and certainly seemed to have the physique to back it up... but she'd also wait until she saw it herself before trusting him entirely. How many people had she seen by now who thought they were hot stuff, and then just went down with hardly a fight? It wasn't just soldiers hunting l'Cie that she had in mind, either- new recruits were often the same way, before reality handed them a heavy check while they were laying dazed on the training room floor.
At the question she sighed. "Just come on," she responded dryly, having no intention to bother otherwise when all she had to do was lead the way over the few strides between one door and the next.
