Dammit, no. No. This was not going to happen. Not when he actually felt in control for once. Not when something was finally going right. One thing. That's all he wanted. One thing to go right.
One thing would never be enough, though. When the door clicked open, when a new male voice dripped sinister bile onto the patients with the threat in his voice, Edward knew it would never be enough. Project 2911. Project 2911. It was a beat in his brain, promising something would go wrong something worse than what had already happened. It just promised that tear gas would be the last thing to worry about. General Aguilar. The Eagle.
There was no question. There was no coincidence that águila meant "eagle".
First things first, Edward, he told himself. While he hated to make anyone wait for him, let alone someone like Stefan who needed him to be prompt, Edward had already sorted his priorities in the moments between the beginning of the announcement and the end. Venom was the first priority. Paranoia was rampant in Edward normally, but now it was festering. Venom was an orderly businessman (if one deemed "assassination" a business). He had never missed a message, not once. Two? Two was unheard of. Even if Sora had seen Venom this morning, the paranoia was beginning to eat Edward alive. He hadn't seen him and he'd been actively looking all day, not even on the rec field when every male patient had been required out there.
Why hadn't he asked his nurse?
Honestly, he knew. He hadn't wanted to know the answer, because he had a feeling what it would have been. Not the one person he could trust here. Not the one who knew everything and still deemed him fit to aid, the only one besides Bella who would.
The desire to have been in the sun room earlier was more intense than ever. He wanted Landel to bleed, Landel to suffer. And now he couldn't.
With only the case he'd ripped off his pillow and the knife Venom had given him as well as the obvious essential, Edward stormed into the darkness with only the light periodically leading him.
