Night 53: M11-M20

Dec 13, 2010 13:32

Badd ate his dinner in silence and his roommate afforded him the same courtesy. Tomorrow he'd give the nurses the slip, recapture Kay, give the nurses the slip, and go hunting for the way out of this dump. He had no idea what part of the country they were in but they'd have to run into reliable authorities eventually if they just kept walking. As ( Read more... )

Javert's new roommate had been older than he had expected, though the revelation hadn't necessarily been a welcome surprise. The last roommate his age had turned out to be a liar, a cheat, and a murderer. Besides, he had little time for conversation. There were preparations to make--it was an experimental treatment night--and notes to finish copying. With luck, Sechs would actually be waiting for him this time.

He dressed and packed quickly. Journal, radio, and medical supplies disappeared into his pockets, the sabre went into his makeshift belt, and dead batteries were exchanged for old. Time worked in strange ways here. It was best not to tarry. One last glance around the room, and he was gone.

And here it was, just off the main hallway. Hopefully she wasn't late. Straightening the grey standard-issue coat a little self-consciously, Soma squared her shoulders and knocked.

Kratos had been sitting on his bed staring at the wall for some indeterminate length of time when there finally came a knock at the door. With luck, it would be Ishida with his cloak: Sora had requested that they explore more outside, and he didn't want to risk falling ill or being compromised in some way because of the cold.

He stood up and opened the door. "Ah." The girl standing before him was hardly Ishida, so this must be..."Soma, I presume." Kratos stood aside to allow her into the room, and closed the door behind her once she was fully inside.

Time to get to business. "I've yet to hear from our third member tonight; if he doesn't appear soon, it might be in our mission's best interest to get started without him." He didn't like the idea of abandoning Ishida, but really, where was that boy?

It looked like Kratos was another patient who'd received his clothes from home, however odd they were. Soma couldn't help but feel a slight pang of envy. It wasn't as if her own outfit would have been any use here--what was the point of a flightsuit if there was nothing to fly?--but there was something to be said for the familiarity of having your own clothes.

In any case, he certainly seemed capable enough. He certainly held himself like he'd seen combat before. "That's right. I came as quickly as I could; I'm sorry if I'm late."

So Ishida hadn't arrived yet. That was interesting. But he hadn't seemed like the sort of person who'd be late, so it stood to reason he'd probably be here soon. "Where are we going tonight?"

Kratos shook his head. "It's not a problem." There were always going to be setbacks, and to not acknowledge them would be selfish of him, especially if he was to be the team leader this time.

"As for tonight, Sora said that we were free to explore outside the institute again, although as Ishida and I extensively toured the forest last night, I don't believe we'll be heading in that direction again." He glanced at her. "Do you have any experience with the surrounding area or know of any points of interest?"
