Day 53: Doctor's Office 7 (Dr. Suresh) [Second Shift]

Nov 29, 2010 04:22

There was a familiar name staring back at him from today's patient list again, and Mohinder frowned. Several of the names were familiar, actually. Some patients just required more time to recover than others, but it was disappointing that this one didn't seem to be making much improvement. Apart from believing he was someone he wasn't, he was ( Read more... )

Things with Elle had gone as well as Peter could have hoped for them to, and he'd definitely have a few things to tell Claire provided that she didn't run into Elle first. Peter kind of hoped that she didn't, just because there was a chance that it wouldn't end well. Maybe he was being paranoid, but it felt like they were already walking on thin ice and he wanted to be careful ( ... )

"Good morning, Ethan. It's a pleasure to see you again too." The man received a raised eyebrow and a half-smile for his question as Mohinder placed a few papers back into his desk. At least this was one patient he didn't have to tell to sit down.

As for the question, "Do I like working here? I've had worse jobs. Here I get to try and help individuals return to their ordinary lives, and that's a worthwhile achievement." If not one he'd set out to pursue when he first stepped into his field of study. "But this is your therapy session, Ethan, not mine. I don't suppose you've had a rough morning?"

That would be unfortunate, given that there had only been one shift in the day before this, but it was entirely possible. Not every patient was entirely pleasant to be around. (He knew - he'd had a couple in his office.)

That slightly sarcastic, somewhat condescending tone that Mohinder was speaking in was more or less him to a T, and it was for that sort of reason that Peter refused to believe that he was a double or something. As far as he was concerned, there were certain things about a person that could just never be replicated. This felt like Mohinder, even if there was so much that was wrong about it ( ... )

"I feel that I've done what I can. A lot of the effort rests on the individual, after all. Do you think I've helped you, Ethan?" He wasn't likely to get a positive answer here, but it was important that they keep the topic of conversation focused on the patient. The other man wanted to figure him out, and that was perfectly understandable, but he couldn't allow himself to go for that.

At the response to his previous question, he just smiled and nodded. That wasn't much of an answer, no, but at least it was a good one. That Ethan hadn't gotten into any arguments with anyone yet that morning (especially a certain someone who would hopefully go unnamed for the rest of the session) was at least something. Not that this particular patient was prone to going out of his way to start fights, but he'd take a little optimism when he could get it.

Mohinder clasped his hands in front of him on the desk as he waited for another answer. They'd see how long he could keep on top of things today.
