Day 53: Breakfast

Nov 21, 2010 08:08

With sigh that toed the ambiguous no-mans-land between soft and explosive, Yuffie collected a plateful of waffles with all the toppings. She was sure that, if nothing else, it'd making a pretty satisfying splat if-when?-she launched it at somebody's face, and that was all that counted ( Read more... )

What was that supposed to mean, Sam wasn't human?

It was those goddamn black eyes. Maybe it was a gut instinct kinda thing, but Dean couldn't kid himself, plain and simple: they creeped him the hell out. Reminded him an awful lot of that time when that bitch Meg had possessed the kid, except this wasn't the same and maybe that was a whole lot harder to take. He'd seen the anti-possession tattoo himself, nevermind the way his brother had walked over all those salt lines without any problems and he wasn't rocking those yellow-eyes, so...

So basically Dean was at a loss. He'd seen the way Sam looked at that - that thing they'd run into ( ... )

Still not accustomed to the act of waking up, Castiel tried to blink his eyes open slowly, that sensation of them sticking closed being enough that he pulled an arm up to rub at them. However, that only caused the pain in his shoulder from that gunshot wound to spike up, waking him up completely.

Carefully, he sat up in bed, glancing down at his body. Or rather, Jimmy's body. That had been drilled back into his head last night, and the oddity of that whole situation hadn't completely left him ( ... )

Okay, y'know what? He was going to straight-up murder Sam in his sleep.

Dean couldn't believe what he was seeing when he'd turned around (again) to try to find his brother. Sam just sauntered in like nothing was different, taking his sweet time, and while that was bad enough, what happened next made Dean stiffen in his seat, staring. That was crap. Instead of heading right over to his table to talk over last night like Sam was supposed to, the kid was instead making a beeline for Ruby and yeah, he got she was hot and had that whole badass hunter chick thing going on, but really? Dean was all for Sam getting laid. God knew he didn't get some nearly as much as he should, far as Dean was concerned. But there was a time and place and Dean was about two seconds from picking up his tray, marching right over and parking himself there, Ruby or not.

So yeah. All he needed to do was murder Sam in his sleep and maybe he'd feel better. Maybe ( ... )

While Castiel had noticed the way that Dean had been about to move somewhere else, it looked like he'd decided to sit back down. He didn't know if the human had been trying to get away from him or if he'd been considering relocating for some other reason, but it hardly seemed to matter. Either way, he wasn't going to let himself think too hard on it. What mattered now was that Dean was even speaking to him, and not with the intense amount of suspicion that Sam had given him two days ago ( ... )

Dean just stared at him when the point flew completely over the dude's head. Was Castiel being a smartass to him or was he being serious? Normally Dean would've shot for smartass. But Castiel gave a whole new meaning to the definition of poker face; he honestly couldn't tell if he was just being a dick or what.

His eyes narrowed slightly even as his mouth quirked up in a grin.

“I guess the whole ‘you’re an angel thing’ means you’re probably buddies with ET and Bigfoot,” he remarked, a little surprised at how easily Castiel just threw out shifters and dopplegangers like it was no biggie. Most folks simply didn’t know that stuff. By now he’d figured out it was different, that there was a surprisingly big number of people who had a cool head on their shoulders, previous knowledge of this kinda thing (or, hell, even both). Still set him back, though. He’d got so used to having to work around civilians that working with ‘em this closely took some adjusting. Probably shouldn’t be bitching about it - did make things easier if he didn’t ( ... )

It was hard to know why exactly Dean was grinning at him like that, but it was definitely preferable to the man yelling in his face. Castiel had seen Dean Winchester when he was angry, and had even been on the receiving end of that rage. That time in the holding room before the last seal had been broken was what stood out the most in his mind. If only he could have somehow transferred that conversation right into the man's brain to make him aware of what they'd been through together, this whole situation could have been fixed. But it wasn't that simple, not anymore ( ... )

Dean sipped his juice - c’mon, he felt like a first grader, ‘cause juice, really? - and eyed Castiel over the rim of his cup. Real joker, this one. He could see him being the life of the party. Okay. So, assuming Castiel knew stuff he shouldn’t and he wasn’t exactly ninja enough about not sticking out to be a hunter - well, it didn’t clear up exactly what he was except not subtle enough to work a case, but Dean was starting to suspect that wasn’t really the real issue here. Not in Landels. Old rules out the window, all that jazz ( ... )

So they had come to the same conclusion, then. It was good to see that they could still think along the same lines when it came to the supernatural, at the very least, and Castiel was glad that they were on a topic of conversation that they could both navigate despite their discrepancies in time and Dean's distrust of him. He didn't know if he was showing himself to be useful yet, but he would simply have to keep it up. Dean could be hard to read when it came to certain things while he wore his heart on his sleeve in other situations ( ... )

“Wait, wait. Just hold the phone,” Dean was determined to steer this right back to what he thought was the most important thing here. He didn’t think Castiel was some kind of demon, even if the whole possible possession thing fit the bill. For one, he was way too helpful and upfront to be a demon. “What do you mean, vessel?”

Sizing up the guy, he was tempted to hit him with a Christo, make doubly sure. But demons weren’t the only things out there that could possess someone (certain spirits could, although the ones he’d seen weren’t this good) and seeing as how Castiel was in the caring and sharing mood still, he might as well try to see what he ran past him first. Dean suspected he might stick to that angel story. He couldn’t remember if angels could pull that demonic possession crap too. Never really bothered to get all up into the lore like Sam. It wasn’t really his style, the whole learning just for shits ‘n giggles kind of thing. Finding out how to hunt it and kill it was about as far as he felt he needed to go. Getting all ( ... )

The fact that Dean had more or less ignored the more important aspects of what he'd just said was enough to bother Castiel, but the only outward sign of that was a slight narrowing of his eyes. The conversation had been going so well, but he should have known that that couldn't last for long. It was only natural that he'd eventually say something that the Dean of three years ago wouldn't be able to follow ( ... )

So if he was telling the truth, then he really was possessing someone.

"That so? So who're you holed up in then?" If this was his typical demon, he would’ve felt a lot more prepared. Okay, maybe not prepared but at least he wouldn’t known generally how it was supposed to act. Demons were douchebags. End of story. They weren’t this helpful and he kept getting this weird thrown feeling. Should he try to exorcise him? Would that even work ( ... )

While it was clear that Dean was confused or at least didn't know what to do with the information that had been given to him, Castiel decided that the best course of action would be to keep answering his questions. The more that Dean learned, the more likely he might be to believe what was being said. Granted, Castiel didn't know how far he'd be able to get without proof. If Dean had been present the night before, with that shadow that had acted as if it was Jimmy, maybe there would have been a chance. But as things were ( ... )

Dean's eyes narrowed. "No one special?" He repeated slowly. "So he's still in there? Why can't you just run around on your own? If you're some angel, you shouldn't be a dick and using folks as your personal condom ( ... )

The fact that Dean was somehow managing to bring up all of the things that Castiel had already been forced to hear the night before from that shadow -- it was both uncanny and completely expected. Dean was the one who had put him in place time and time again, who had taught him what being human really was. It was no surprise that he was now judging him for what was only normal for an angel.

Still, there were certain facts that had to be explained. He knew this was going to go into further uncertain territory, giving Dean even less of a reason to trust him, and yet he might as well set the record straight. "Jimmy's consciousness is no longer in this vessel," he admitted. He wasn't going to give the details, seeing how Dean would probably not even be able to follow his words with the total lack of divine knowledge that he had now.

"However, this vessel must be used. My true form is too powerful for humans to hear or look upon." There was also the fact that he couldn't have exited this cage of flesh even if he'd wanted to, but that ( ... )
