The Head Doctor / Martin Landel
damned_intercom &
the_head_doctorNo one in Landel's is sought after for vengeance more than its titular owner: Martin Landel. As the Head Doctor of Landel's Institute, he tries to come off as an overly friendly administrator during his daytime announcements, rambling on about his job and commenting on how well the patients are doing. Of course, during the night, he puts on a whole different face, taunting and laughing at the "useless" efforts of those he holds prisoner. He has only shown his face to the patient population a handful of times, and it seems that his Head Nurse, Lydia, is the only person who regularly interacts with him. If there's anyone who knows exactly how to get the patients back home, it's him, though it doesn't seem like he'll be giving up that secret anytime soon.
Mr. Radio / "Jack" / Alec Doyle
damned_radio &
mister_radioOnce upon a time, an anonymous voice began speaking in between the tinny jazz music that played on the patients' radios during Nightshift. He broadcasted cryptic clues regarding anything from locating a helpful item to killing one of the nightshift monsters, and though his efforts were appreciated by most, it soon became clear from the Head Doctor's tirades towards a certain "Alec Doyle" that the two of them had worked together at one point in the Institute's history. More shocking still was the revelation that "Mr. Radio" had infiltrated the Institute as a patient named "Jack," and in the aftermath of this revelation, The Head Doctor and Mr. Radio finally met face to face on the Institute's roof in a scene that ended in tragedy.
Ms. Radio / "Jill"
damned_radioWhile Mr. Radio might be gone, he isn't the only person looking to take down the Head Doctor. The mysterious new voice of a woman calling herself "Jill" appeared a night or so after Jack's death, and though she claims that she is part of the rebel movement that Jack himself led, patients are more wary the radio's clues than ever before. No one has ever seen Jill, after all, and her announcements are spotty at best and unsure at worse. Still, she has managed to keep her composure even after her leader's death and it can be assumed that she's doing the best she can under the circumstances.
Day Staff
Doctors
damned_doctorsA respected mental institute would be nothing without a qualified staff, so it makes sense that The Head Doctor has gone to great lengths to collect a very competent crew of medical and scientific professionals from some of the very same universes as the patients that they see during therapy sessions. Their strengths and fields of study are as varied as their personalities and methods of practice, but they all seem to have one thing in common: none of them are aware of the Institute's true nature or of the fact that they are no longer in their respective worlds. Currently, Martin Landel is employing Dr. Gregory House, Dr. James Wilson, Dr. Andrew Stegman, Prof. Hakubi Washu, Dr. Daedalus Yumeno, Dr. Maggie Burroughs, Dr. Jizabel Disraeli, Dr. Makiko Kisugi, and Dr. Mohinder Suresh. Each doctor has their own player; daytime doctors are playable by application only.
Nurses
damned_nursesThe nurses at Landel's vary in personality from sugary sweet to incredibly strict. They also have different duties, from those who take care of patients as best they can to the burly orderlies who keep their charges in line with force. (See the nurse journal for more detailed descriptions.) Like the doctors, they genuinely seem oblivious to the fact that the Institute has anything but the best intentions towards the patients. These are the NPCs that your character will probably interact with the most, and as such, they are playable during the daytime so long as they aren't doing anything serious (e.g. sedating a patient, giving them an item. etc).
Night Staff
Doctors
damned_doctorsWhile the doctors who "treat" patients during the night are certainly human, they are wholly different from their daytime counterparts. They seem fully aware of the Institute's grand plan to the point that they even refer to their victims by their true names when select patients are taken in for CM-US Experimental Trials on select nights. These sessions are "experimental" indeed; they usually consist of the attending doctor pushing the patient to the very edge of their physical and psychological limit, and once the patient is freed from the room, their doctor disappears as if they were never there at all. Nighttime doctors may only played by NPC Mods or by mod permission.
Nurses
damned_doctorsUnlike the doctors, Nightshift nurses only retain bare traces of their humanity. They prowl the halls searching for patients to neutralize, and when they find them, they use whatever monstrous abilities they have to stop them in their tracks. Just like during Dayshift, there are various types of nurses with different abilities depending on what their daytime duties are; please refer to the nurse journal for more details. During Nightshift, nurses may only be played by NPC Mods.
Monsters
damned_monstersMonsters at Landel's come in all shapes and sizes, from the deformed and enlarged manifestations of household pets to abominations that seem to have walked out of someone's worst nightmare. They will try to sneak up on patients or try to prevent them from exploring certain sections of the Institute during the night, and what kind of monster your character runs into often depends on where they are in the buildings or on the grounds. Monsters may only be played by NPC Mods.
Civilians
Townspeople
damned_townOnce a week, the patients of Landel's take a field trip down to Doyleton, the town just outside of Landel's. Here, patients can interact with the many citizens and try to get some information about where, exactly, Landel's Institute is located and what the local culture is like. Generally, the town's atmosphere seems consistent with the same retro-American atmosphere as the Institute, though unlike the Institute's staff, they don't seem so comfortable with the idea of being around mental patients for a whole day. Townspeople may only be played by NPC Mods.
Visitors
damned_visitorsVisitors are, perhaps, the most disturbing entities in all of the NPC roster. Rather than being monstrous, these individuals are frightening due to how much they mirror the loved ones of the patients that they see every Sunday. While they retain the same appearance and personality as the version in a patient's world, they seem convinced of that patient's insanity and act according to the "real life" in the patient's file. According to the Head Doctor, these mirror images actually are the real thing, taken from their worlds and successfully brainwashed into believing the Institute's lies, and though this might be a lie in and of itself, it becomes hard to dismiss when certain visitors remember their own time in Landel's before they were "cured." Visitors may only be played by NPC Mods or by mod permission and player consent.
