Gotta love Bush's candidness...

"Apparently there will be a war. I think I know more or less when. It is not going to happen immediately," Ariel Sharon told Channel Two television on Tuesday... Israel's military intelligence chief told lawmakers any U.S. assault on Iraq is likely to be in early February, parliament's spokesman said on Wednesday.

Just a couple months ago, Sharon fired numerous people involved in making unauthorized leaks about US war plans. Now Sharon himself is saying stuff. Considering that Sharon desperately wants US military aide and that he's not a total idiot, I think there's a little more going on with this story than what the media plainly reports.

I think this is part of Bush's overall media plan, and Israel is merely a voluntary participant. Even though basically no foreign government supports Bush on this Iraq war, few of them want to be left on the sidelines if a war occurs. Using domestic and international media leaks, Bush is making the war seem inevitable. This will shift media attention from criticism of the war's justification to how the war will be executed, which is exactly what Bush wants.

Or maybe I'm giving Bush, Cheney, and crew too much credit...
