Fry's new hobby.

Aug 25, 2008 00:24

Now that Fry-kitty is old enough to go outside, his exceptionally soft, fine fur means that he's acquired a new hobby: vacuuming up every freaking goosegrass burr from our yard.  Much as I try to keep the stuff under control, after a wet spring like this last one, it's a losing battle.  Tippy and our late Gandalf never have/had much trouble with ( Read more... )

Well in true primate fashion, when you next pick the nubs out pop a few in your mouth... see if you get wired and/or scrawny. (j/k!)

I've got a Silver-shaded Persian myself, and he's always covered in leaves and twigs etc., so I feel for ya. Mustapha hates being groomed, so I just cut them out of his fur if they can't be casually tugged free. I didn't bring him into the family to be a show pet (he's a rescue), so a comfy and funny-looking haircut is fine by him, and it's fine by me. I'd rather he be happy and healthy than perfectly groomed.

Silly girl! That would be rude. Proper baboon etiquette states that you only put *lice* in your mouth (and that only if you're on a first-name basis with the individual being groomed, and belong to the same species . . .) ;) XD

Yeah, I've always thought happy pets are better than "pretty" pets. My mom and I used to use sheep shears to trim our dogs' coats every spring when I was growing up (no matter how often we brushed the beasts, they had such thick undercoats that they always got mats in the spring). Those were some darn funny-looking dogs when we got done with them, but they never seemed to mind . . .

Well I never growed up with baboons, I just gots the instinct fer groomin'. I aren't no edjeekadid-type person. Besides, does that rule apply to all grooming sessions conducted by primates, or do the rules change for interspecies grooming? That's kind of stepping into dangerous territory, and the rules might be quite different. After all, how many lice have you found on your cat? :P

LoF, we have a fenced yard, a six-footer with three more feet of chickenwire on top of that. If a cat gets to the top of the wooden part they set foot on that chickenwire and it's all wobbly so they jump back down. Works like a charm. They've got a very safe outdoors area for them to chase grasshoppers and not get mangled by dogs. Mom had the wobblies put there for just that reason. People laugh at (and sometimes complain about) the way the fence looks, but she doesn't care. The yard is for the kittehs.

BTW, I love your avy...

You can see how important it is to read Miss Manners' Big Book of Grooming Dos and Don'ts before going out on the town, to be sure of all the interspecies differences. . . it's a jungle out there. ;)

I stole borrowed my avatar from "icanhascheezburger"; the expression on the cat's face just cracked me up, especially since you can see it's not being hurt, it's just complaining about being held up to show off its extra toes . . . Not to mention that the caption sums up my reaction to a lot of the Internet. o_O

Little kittehs are not allowed outside and the longhair isn't allowed out either. While Rose loves to roll about in the dust before coming in (... I know. Honestly, what?), other people are generally clean. :D

Lots of cats seem to like rolling in dust. Maybe it's a coat-cleaning/flea suppression thing?

I think it's a "look mommy, I was clean and then since you're standing there I think I'll roll around in the dust!" thing, but it's entirely possible there's a reason for it.

Yeah, you're right. I forgot about the whole "mess with your mind" game that cats play.
