Crafting books I never could have imagined.

Wow. While searching for a pet-fur-spinning book to link to in that last post, I got some REALLY interesting "related" craft books popping up over at Amazon. Here's a sampling.

Creepy Cute Crochet: Zombies, Ninjas, Robots, and More! -- Is Cthulhu in the public domain? I sure as hell hope so, otherwise can we say, "copyright violation"?

Can't say for sure if Cthulhu is in the public domain, but many of Lovecraft's works are. So... 50/50 there's a violation? ;)

These titles are great! Again, more things that make me think I should take up yarn-craft of some variety. As if I had any free time for new hobbies!

I seem to recall that August Dereleth/Arkham House extended a lot of Lovecraft's original copyrights, but I'm not sure. Seems to be a bit of a grey area, and there sure is a lot of Cthulhu stuff out and about anymore. *shrugs*

Heh. The running joke with me and the RL friends, whenever one of us take a shine to a new hobby, is, "After all, I need something to fill up my copious free time." (Said with a heavy overlay of wry sarcasm.)

I'm pretty sure Cthulhu is indeed in the public domain. Which is why you see Cthulhu-themed stuff everywhere. Although as I understand it, even back when it wasn't, ol' H.P. was fine with letting other people play in his sandbox, anyway.

And now I'm wondering whether a certain friend of mine does crochet or just knitting, because if so that first one would be perfect for her. :)

I've never been entirely clear where the whole Lovecraft canon stands in terms of copyright; I know TSR got in trouble for using the Mythos in their first "Deities and Demigods" book, but there does seem to be an almighty lot of Cthulhu stuff out there all the same.

Certainly, as you say, HPL was pretty laid-back about such things, so it doesn't seem *karmically* bad, just potentially dodgy in legal terms. ;)

Well this toy amuses me no end and it's been out for a few years now.

very much what you'd expect from someone getting a really, er, special "last-minute gift" like that hat! Oy.

That hat was different, wasn't it? ;) It could be ok I guess. If it had some leaves and maybe a flower fairy costume...

Smartass question of the day: do anarchists follow patterns?)

LOL

The best part of that coffin book are the reviews. Ha.

I know. I love that it isn't just a crafting book on coffins, it's a really crappy crafting book on coffins. That somehow makes it twice as funny. :D

ETA - ah, yes, John Kovalik. Is there any fantasy critter he can't make adorable?
