I Survived RadCon, obviously . . .

Whew! Always takes a day or two to get my brain back online after a convention, but I'm getting back in the groove of things.

sahiya, if you're out there, your help_haiti fic is my next writing priority. As I said, I should have at least the first part up by the 20th (which, IIRC, was the deadline). The rest of it, TBH, will probably trail in after this next ( Read more... )

conventions, history, pics, reenactment, radcon, costuming, geekery, steampunk

Now, I'm no expert, but to me it seems that the belt and belt pouch are not THAT bad an anachronism.... at least when compared to that digital camera you're holding. *g*

YAY! for more fic from you soon. My own story for Sahiya is also coming along. I'm torn between starting posting soon or waiting till I'm done writing it... But the good news (for both of us) is that Sahiya is not all that fussy about the deadline. :)

*Snrk!* Yeah, you're right on that front -- but one tends to politely overlook the few bits of inevitable modern tech that creep in sometimes (i.e. cameras, eyeglasses for those who have trouble with contact lenses, cell phones, etc.). You try to hide 'em whenever possible, but . . . It's the actual items that are part of one's intentional *garb* that are truly up for criticism.

I'll probably be finishing up a *lot* of IP stuff soon (at least, I sure as hell hope so) now that I'm not writing about the Greenland Norse and so on, and my scientific abstract is safely submitted. I have a lot of fragments that just need a few more hours' work to be post-able. :)

Thanks! I'm definitely getting into steampunk, at least as a fun costuming "genre," and *boy* is it ever popular at the cons this year. I can't count the number of folks I saw wearing goggles this last weekend . . .

Looking forward to the Norwescon outfit I'm putting together. I just have to sew the skirt, which shouldn't take *too* long and pile the hat with silk roses and tulle and all. I'm doing a steampunk "Gibson girl" look, since I like the Edwardian look a bit more than the Victorian (also, I can get by without a corset, yay!). aibhinn and I are going as a steampunk team this year; I'll definitely post pics! :D

Any chance of seeing you at MisCon? You know I can't get any further west than that...

I very much *want* to be there, but it'll come down to time off from work + money issues. I do know there are people from this area maybe-kinda thinking of attending this time (which wasn't the case the last few years), so being able to carpool and share a room might tip the balance. It could also help that I'm not moving this year. I've really missed MisCon. :(
