Much as I try to be an "All Creatures Great and Small" kinda gal, please, please tell me your building management has scheduled an exterminator? (What will you be doing about your mirror-housing tagalongs?)
Oh, they'll probably send some Facilities guys around with a can of wasp spray at some point. Right now, though, the building is in the process of being partially re-wired, re-plumbed, and having the stonework facing re-done (I actually took pictures of that, since our building really is kinda cool looking). Wasps are probably pretty low on the list (state institution, remember!).
countessaleska and I pumped the mirror housing full of the non-toxic (to mammals) wasp stuff that uses menthol as an active ingredient. Works pretty well, and leaves everything aggressively minty-fresh
( ... )
Well, whatever gets the little ladies out of card-readers and cars. (Minty fresh, eh? Heh. I didn't know that menthol sent wasps etc. to six-legs-plus heaven. That's interesting.) While I've learned to live and let live to a certain degree, there are times when hurrying them around the karmic wheel is really important to me. Heh.
Yeah, here's the stuff we use -- we get it cuz we have cats and they go everywhere and lick their feet afterwards (also, I have to admit I don't like having toxins around *me*, either). Just menthol, a little detergent (same stuff as is in shampoo) to break the surface tension, water, and carbon dioxide. Doesn't actually get simpler than that, and it really does drop the little suckers quickly.
Fortunately the Facilities guys were around pretty quickly. I was surprised, actually. Maybe a department chair lit a fire under them (the Facilities guys, not the wasps!) or something . . .

my advice: go in late and come out early so you don't need to use it!
