His lips certainly are beautiful and fun to draw, aren't they?! So full and shapely! I'm going to sit here and be envious of your nose-drawing abilities all over again.
You've shown me up, I must retaliate! ;) I'm joking, but all this talk about drawing Shimura has me wanting to draw him again. Next week I might actually have the free time...! I find I'm inspired to do some abstract painting by a lot of Fujifabric songs, but I'm not good at throwing it together the way I want. I have a foggy vision of a surreal portrait every time I listen to Strawberry Shortcakes.
Not just beautiful individual features but all put together so beautifully. The nose and mouth and eyes all arching in the same proud and gentle manner. Awesome really!
I hope it will inspire you to do more Shimura art. I am totally hopeless drawing on a computer, but I am finally starting to understand how to use a pencil. Given time you will easily surpass me anyway, whatever medium you choose.
The key with abstracts is no mind. Don't plan at all, just let it emerge as it wants to. Then you are always surprised and amused and never disappointed. Sometimes I miss painting that way, it can be very rewarding.
I would call his lips beautiful on their own, but I think you might be right. They look a bit odd with nothing else, maybe squarish; but with the roundness of his nose and eyes it pulls out the curviness.
Drawing on the computer is a little more difficult. If you use a mouse, it's like drawing with the world's hugest pencil. If you use a tablet, you can't be exact to the pixel unless you pay thousands of dollars for one with a screen in it. And of course you have to get used to everything, too; the tablet, the pen, the software, the tools within... but really it's amazing, all the fuss and none of the mess. I think I am hooked.
I never really do it anymore, but I will have to. I miss when I used to listen to a song on repeat until I sucked all the inspiration I got right out of it, haha.
I think they are great lips, even hovering in space ;p But really what makes him so special is his bone structure. I am tempted to do another one that focuses more on his cheekbones and jawline they are so magnificent.
That's exactly the problem with my tablet...it's so vague. I can't see me ever making the transition to digital in a big way. I like the messy aspect of art. In fact I can always measure how much I've got done by how much mess I have made. And most of my clothes have paint splashes. Lucky I don't use oils.
I'm a terrible song/album repeater. I get addicted to them and it feels like no other music will do. Some music can't cope with it and I never listen to it again, but the best of it I can always come back to.
