Can't find Advent candles? WTF?

Nov 27, 2007 09:37

I haven't found any since I moved here, but this year I was determined. I have searched in four stores for Advent candles so far this year. At best I was met with confusion and looked at like I was an alien. There weren't even boxes of individual tapers with colors approximate enough to tolerate ( Read more... )

If you can't find any local you might try the Cokesbury website, but I think a christian bookstore will have it or can order it for you. Hugs good luck.

Agreeing with last paragraph. Isn't freedom of religion supposed to be "free to practice your faith" not "free from all mention of faith"? It all seems so silly, like whoever does all the "war on Christmas" stuff on both sides must be very insecure if their beliefs are offended by such a thing.

~emerges from thesis-bunker~ When I call home, I'll ask my mom where we get ours. For all I know, she just gets candles from wherever one gets candles -- we tend to use the same candles year after year until they get totally burned down (rotating them so they burn relatively evenly). I know our church has no sort of store, so ... she probably pulls them out using her magical Mom Powers, come to think of it. But Michael's or a similar place would be my guess.

o___O That is strange. With being raised Catholic we always had Advent wreaths around at Christmas time. I went to Catholic school so we always had them in the classrooms too.

It's surprising that you couldn't even find pink and purple candles. They probably have them at Michael's, or if worse comes to worse you could always try the dollar store.

And I forget to mention that I totally agree with your last paragraph. If it's okay to show a menorah or Kwanzaa candles, then why not a manger scene? It's freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.
