I liked the Not Really A Mary Sue but what is a Mary Sue? or rather what is meant by a Mary Sue?

A Mary Sue is when the author (or more commonly authoress) inserts herself into story to interact with the main characters. Usually s/he is the most dazzling and useful person around and gets up to romantic shenanigans.

They are generally despised.

Ah okay hmmm Well in all my stories that I have ever started or done, I have always seen myself as the main character. Is that the same thing?
