Thanks!
It depends. Somedays I'm lucky if I manage two words, others the day is gone before I realize it and I have 2000 down. My best day that I can remember was over 5000 in one day...a complete short story in one sitting. Those days are rare. There are way too many others where I don't write at all.
But then I try and do too many things that get in the way. I am off the opinion that you don't have to write every day to be a serious writer. That can be an unreasonable expectation given the hectic schedules most of us have. There is no doubt you have to put in your time if you want to get anywhere, but everyone's process is different.
With this specific project I've been averaging between 500 and 2000 words a day, but I'm getting very little sleep and what time I'm not working the day job I have a keyboard in front of me or a pen in my hand. I have gotten a LOT down long hand on the train.

5000 words is awesome! But 500-2000 a day is not too shabby either! I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who cannot write everyday, and that it's OK to not do that. I hear you with the hectic schedule too, plus, I like to squeeze in some down time or else I get really grumpy! lol
That's great you can get stuff in long hand. My writing looks like chicken scratch! lol. But I guess when you have such a tight deadline, like you do, you have to write when and where you can.
Thanks for sharing your methods and for the inspiration!
