Once you have the form down in a way you love, they make fake-pumpkins or funkins I think they are called. They carve and have the heft of a real pumpkin but last forever.

These are great! I just acquired some mini-pumpkins for a photo experiment, myself.

The decoupage is really nifty! I like the wire-wrap, as well.
