Well, you know Hollywood . . . there's plenty of deviation from the original graphic novel, there's plenty of cliches, and a lot of the action scenes distract attention away from some of the more meaningful dialogue.

One of my favorite quotes from the movie (as best as I can remember it): "Art uses lies to reveal the truth, a politician uses lies to cover the truth." Priceless. . . and perhaps self-fulfilling for the movie itself.

Also, there's a bit of irony in using John Hurt as the head of the Big Brother state . . . he was a very convincing Winston in 1984. I believe that impact of that connection was intentional . . . we are the ones allowing the decay of civil liberties, a decay that lends itself towards the transformation of our society into a police-state.
