An episode of Honma Dekka where they analyize the human nature - this time it's Chinen Yuri together with the cast of Samurai Hustle (Chokosoku! Sankin kotai) The topic of this episode was... Diagnosis of an unreliable man! Who will turn out to be an unreliable man?! So get ready for this little bit Chinen-centric recap and find out whether he turns out to be an unreliable man or not!
Loads of screencaps ahead! [1st question - Chinen gives an unexpectedly matured answer?]BTW as always, I like Honma Dekka for the interesting topics but I don't always agree with what they come up and sometimes I question the reasoning they give to their conclusions :D Also my translation might not be an accurate interpretation either so please take this with a pinch of salt.
Clock-wise from top left corner - Sasaki Kuranosuke, Kamiji Yusuke, Chinen Yuri, Emoto Tokio
So the first question that will help them diagnose an unreliable man is: When you are requested to make some arrangements/organize things, are you the type who is NOT bothered by it/who does NOT worry about it? Those who don't worry about it shall answer yes, those who would prefer not doing it if possible shall answer no.
Chinen, Kamiji and Sasaki answer no, it's only Emoto who answers yes. Sasaki: It would be a bit bothersome. Kamiji: I hate bothersome things! MC: And Chinen-kun also says no.
Chinen: I'm not good at gathering/organizing people up. Chinen: I can't even book a place in a restaurant on my own. But others don't find it too bad as they think it's just because he's still a young person. Sasaki: But that's because you just turned 20. Chinen: Also I can't even order things on my own in a restaurant, when my friend makes an order I tell him "order this as well".
Then they proceed to the guy who said yes. MC: You wonderfully chose yes. It's just you seem to be more of a type who wouldn't be requested to do anything in the first place. Emoto explains that he finds it quite fun to organize birthday surprises and thinking about the ways of doing it. Then his co-actors praise him for being attentive to everyone during meals.
Sensei then explains his question: This question was about the unreliability in love relationships and to find out a person who is likely to cheat. So what answer reveals that the person is likely to cheat on his girlfriend? And sensei says those who answered yes.
"Those who are not bothered by organizing things when requested are likely to cheat in a relationship?!"
It's a rather surprising assumption. But MC reassures Emoto as he says: MC: Don't you worry, it's not like you would be able to cheat anyway. Then sensei explains that this is a type of a person who is able to manage things (budgeting, booking at restaurants etc), so men like this would be able to do the same managing with various women - organizing and arranging things in order not to be found out in case they cheat. (so just the fact that they would be able to do it makes them more likely to do it? o.O)
Apparently Emoto chats with females quite a lot, but he wouldn't be able to go out and play around with them. MC: I see, it's cheating inside your brain.
Chinen also agrees with the conclusion. Chinen: I'd start thinking about how bothersome everything would be after the affair in the first place. MC is apparently shocked by his matured answer. MC: You're 20 and you understand that?! Other people exclaim things like "Just how popular are you?!" "Isn't this completely different from the experience point of view of a 20 year old?!" [since a 20 year old isn't supposed to have an experience in this yet] MC: What? I'm 58 and I still don't get it! They made Chinen look like a person who experienced a lot of relationships lol. You don't need experience to understand that! :D
Do you have lots of things in your room? The answers are equally divided. Chinen and Sasaki say no, Emoto and Kamiji say yes. MC: Chinen, you're saying no again? Chinen: Yes, when I go shopping I kind of end up thinking that the things will just become obstructing and that I don't need them in the end. Chinen: And even if I needed it, the moment when I'm about to take it out, I'd think that it's already bothersome taking it out from the back. Seems like that the rest think that this is an answer of a rather elderly person :D
Kosugi: Just how old are you?!! Yoshida: You still have whole life ahead of you. Turns out that this question was to define someone who is lacking decisiveness. People who are lacking decisiveness are apparently people who said no to this question.
"If a man has small amount of things in his room, he lacks decisiveness?"
Sensei explains that the condition of a one's surroundings expresses one's brain. The more information you have, the more you are able to make an appropriate decision. Information that doesn't fit into your brain can be put into the surroundings, which helps you keep high content of information.
"If you have lots of things in the room that means that you have high information content in your brain? "
Sasaki agress as he says that he doesn't really attain/retain the information. Sensei: Well, that's poor. Sasaki says that he doesn't feel like needing user's manual and when he has too much stuff he gets rid of it. Sensei: This is a representative model of a failure. He explains that if you get rid of things after you succeed in something, the information content decreases.
Here he asks Chinen and Sasaki another question. Do you usually pay attention to what you wear? Sasaki: I do. If I didn't, I would just get into a tracking suit. Kamiji: But in the location filmings when we go to eat, you wear really old-fashioned clothes. Sasaki: Shut up.
Emoto says that he still thinks that Sasaki is cool, but Kamiji is trying to prove his point that Sasaki is really out of fashion, more than anyone can imagine. Then they turn their attention to Chinen.
Chinen: I don't really pay attention to that. As when I go to work I get to wear stylish clothes [given by staff I assume] Kamiji: But even so, normally he gives off a cool vibe. A stylish one. MC: Your face covers it everything. Sasaki-san, it's hopeless for you! Kamiji: [about Sasaki] He's cool but the gap is really not a joke. So the sensei reveals that in case of Chinen, the fact that he doesn't really pay attention to it is a positive sign.
"If a man normally pays attention to what he wears, he's lacking decisiveness?"
Sensei explains that paying attention to what one wears indicates that one has no self-confidence. Then he adds that those who have self-confidence are intelligent, which relates to decisiveness.
Outside home, when you are traveling or in a green room, do you have a drink ready close at hand? (asking whether they actively do something in order to have some kind of drink within reach) Emoto, Kamiji, Sasaki say yes, only Chinen says no.
Chinen: I'm doing it in the style of when I get thirsty I go buy something. MC is speechless. Matsuko: What is this? I'm somehow starting to worry about him.
Sasaki says it's better to have it at hand just in case. Kamiji claims that he has a glass of water even when he sleeps or when he's taking a bath. MC: So you generally have decided to have like water or tea. Kamiji: Water, tea or coffee. MC: That's not decided!!
They even ask Tokui (comedian from duo called Tutorial) Tokui: Water. For me it's water. MC: Nothing else but water? Tokui: Yes, water. It's best to have water. Yoshida: Stop saying things as if you were a model! Yoshida was apparently mad at the unexpectedly matured way of answering as this is not expected from a comedian :D
So the sensei reveals that this question was to define spoilt/pampered people who are weak against stress. And those people are people who answered yes. The guests are not surprised.
"A man who has a beverage ready close at hand is a spoilt child vulnerable to stress?"
The principle of drinking water is to keep oneself alive. To keep oneself alive by having water close at hand connects to unconsciously escaping stress, worries or conflicts. MC: That's why Kamiji must be a real spoilt child? Since he has the water everywhere he goes. Kamiji doesn't object and agrees completely. Sasaki thinks he's quite a spoilt child too. To which Chinen responds.
Chinen: You see, we talked about us 4 appearing in this program. And you said that you are going just so to leave the talking to someone else. Chinen: Like "There's Kamiji-kun today so it's better if I don't talk." Everyone is, again, shocked how Chinen said it in a very mature and adult-like manner :D Kosugi: You are looking at it with such composure.
Kosugi: So startling. Matsuko: In reality, you are the one who's the most reliable here. Yoshida: It's kids like you who can change Japan!
Do you like spicy food? No one expected the question to be so simple so they burst into laughter :D Apparently Emoto and Sasaki are not good with spicy food, while Chinen and Kamiji really like it.
Sasaki explains that he can eat spicy food but he thinks that by adding the spiciness more and more, he won't feel the taste anymore so it's not worth it. Kamiji says that he loves spicy food, anything spicy is fine with him. Chinen: It's not like I'm strong against it but I enjoy the feel of challenge. Then continues that he likes thinking about whether he could handle another level, so he keeps rising up the level of spiciness. Kamiji agrees and adds that in the latter half he starts to want some stimuli.
This question was to find out who is not able to take action because of cowardice. This type of person is a person who answered no to the question above. This conclusion came out of a survey about character and favorite taste conducted by an university in the US. The results have shown that those who are sociable do like spicy food, and those who are not sociable are generally not good with spicy food.
"People who like spicy food are more sociable?!"
MC: So this fits Chinen and Kamiji, as they are sociable. Sensei: That's right, it's just as Chinnen said earlier... MC: It's Chinen!! Chinen: I suddenly became bald or something. [in Japan they call bald boys or those with crew cut 'chinnen' for some reason] Kosugi: He's a Johnny's!!! Chinen: Am I bald or something?
So those who like spicy food want to challenge the spicy food because they have adventurous spirit. Those who are rather cowardly, see risk in spicy food so they avoid it. Sasaki tries to gets deeper to this subject as he's still wondering how sociability relates to a person feeling risky when eating spicy food. Sensei: To give you a definite proof, I hate spicy food. Sensei: And I'm timid/coward. Kosugi: First hand data?! Is this a first hand data thing?!
Next question.
Do you remember what you had for dinner 3 days ago? Here they leave the guest thinking while they ask the others - Tokui says that he can think of what he had 2 days ago but not what was 3 days. Yoshida: If I go according to experience, I probably had gyudon. [rice with beef and vegetables on top] Kosugi (smacks him on his head): Isn't that just statistics? Matsuko: I can't even tell what I had yesterday. MC: No way? Matsuko: Eeeh, what did I eat?! Matsuko: I don't even know which one was my dinner. :DDDD
So the only one who can remember is Kamiji, the rest can't recall what they had for dinner. Chinen: My limit is 2 days ago. Here Tokui suddenly remembers. Tokui: I remembered. Tokui: I had carpaccio. [dish with raw fish or meat, usually served as appetizer though] So stylish!
Matsuko: You eat carpaccio and drink water?! Yoshida: What are you, a model?! Tokui: I didn't say it as a model but if you think of me as one, sorry. *says in very masculine and casual way of saying "sorry" :D* *and strikes a stylish pose*
BTW, Yoshimi Tokui is apparently someone who has actually been ranked as the most handsome comedian so many times that he's not allowed to join competitions anymore :D
This question was to reveal a man who doesn't seem manly to women. Those who don't seem manly to women are those who chose yes to this question.
"A man who remembers what he ate 3 days ago doesn't seem manly to females?"
Sensei elaborates that those who have good abstract memory tend to forget about the content of meals or concrete things. This is the opposite for those with good episodic memory. And in case of females, it's episodic memory that is more strong. So males with good episodic memory can easily become friends with females but statistically it's hard for those males to get into sexual relationship with females.
"A man who remembers concrete things has a hard time forming a man-woman relationship with a female?"
Sensei: When a male says "I can't remember what I had for dinner yesterday" the female sees it as a sign of manliness. Tokui (pointing at Matsuko): There's a really manly person here" [referencing to what she said earlier] Yoshida: You can't even remember what was yesterday.
Matsuko: I can't remember anything at all. What happened 3 days ago. What place, what work? Matsuko: Did I have a day off? I can't tell at all! Matsuko: What is this... An illness? Sensei heartlessly simply replies. Sensei: It's just a man inside of a man.
Then Kamiji reveals that he's actually doing something in order to remember things. He explains that he doesn't want to forget all the fun and intereseting talks they have during the meals, so he makes notes in his mobile phone. And sensei has no compassion in her answers. Sensei: That just means you're not living in the present.
So that was the last question and to summarize from the result, the one that is the most unreliable man are Sasaki and Emoto! Sasaki: Well I don't really want to be relied on anyway.
Chinen was the least unreliable one, with just one point :3 In the group he has more or less an image of a pampered kid, but he's actually a reliable young man!
So yeah... Chinnen! Kids like you will change Japan! :D
