So. Hmm. I'm not going to go into where I was or what I was doing - firstly, because it's not a particularly interesting story, and secondly, because there's something else I want to talk about. Sometimes the world and the people in it surprise you in a good way. This man was a sex offender who tried to abduct another child before taking this one from his home in the middle of the night. I don't think the reality of the polarisation is as bad as the perception. Two people getting into a fight attracts attention. Two people getting a coffee... doesn't.
TBH, I think forgiveness is ironically part of the problem. People spout hate, hide behind freedom of speech, and claim you can't touch them. We can. Instead of letting it slide, maybe we should say 'No. I don't believe you. And I won't let you go unanswered this time.' We can't deny them their freedom of speech, but maybe we shouldn't ignore our own. Not get angry, not get violent, just 'No. You're wrong.'
And then take someone out for coffee. The only way to truly change things is to connect. Maybe you can't change the world with kindness, but you can change your world. And that's something I know you are good at. And maybe that person will change things just a little bit in their world. And so on.

But I'm in the "let's be kind to each other" camp, and hope that if I can keep offering kindness in my little part of the world, it will spread in ripples and maybe have a good effect a little farther away.
