Most of the lights in Manhattan were out, except for a few clusters where the majority of the people were living. That was his main guide for direction, although instruments helped with the rest in this kind of light

Moments after the missile launch, more signals went out, through the city, speeding along until they set off a small blinking light, all the way off in a dark room.

Fawful groaned as the flashing awoke him. Sleep had been a rare enough event for the genius since this whole project began. But the instant he recognized the source of his awakening, exhaustion was pushed away.

With the press of a button, the data printed out. He clicked a screen on; a few still shots of the helicopter came up. His impossibly wide grin spread. A click, and more shots over the city came up. No, no--there. From a camera located several blocks away, the smoke of the wreckage could be seen.

He dashed to the window, pulled it open, and let a drone. Then back to the control set, he watched as the drone's camera clicked on, and he took the controls. Outside, his mechanical minion began to buzz over the streets, to get a look at the results. "Beware, finkrat," Fawful hissed to his unseen, unknown victim. "My fury is not through."
