Some days, Odd regretted letting her go, and on those days he felt guilty for even thinking that way. He had said that it would be okay, she could pass through to Service, onto the next Great Adventure, without him. He would wait for her, even if it meant that death would not bring them together after all. For a girl like that, how could he not at the very least hope? And her last words, the silence that passed through her lips and he heard and recognized them because, sometimes, it almost seemed like they were one person-
Be happy.
And he was. Odd was happy. To find happiness in a god-forsaken place of post-apocalyptic ( ... )

Rising from the piano bench, Garnet smoothed her hair as she made her way to the door. "I'm coming!" she called, as she reached for the knob, pulled the door open...
And her face lit up in a smile. He was a sight for sore eyes.
"Odd! What a pleasant surprise!" she said, and she meant it with all of her heart. It had been far too long since she'd seen him, and he almost never came to see her. In fact, she could not recall a time when he had.
Anxiously, she stepped back, pulling door open wider to allow him inside. "What brings you here?"
Her worries, for the moment, were pushed aside in favor of more pleasant thoughts.

“Hey.” Odd returned with a friendly smile as Garnet slid open the door for his entry. He shrugged the bag against the wall, onto the floor and rubbed his shoulder, craning his sore neck as he took a few steps into the empty space of the hotel room.
It’d been awhile since Odd had seen Garnet face-to-face. Sadly he didn’t keep track of who he was seeing anymore or when. Maybe a few times since his breakdown at the cathedral... a state in recent history that he couldn’t say he was proud of anyone seeing him in.
That was all done and over with now, he hoped.
What brought him here, on the other hand... Odd turned to his friend. “I’m not too sure, to be honest. I think my feet just carried me here. That’s all.” No I was just passing by or ( ... )

The room wasn't completely empty, but it could aptly be described as 'sparse' -- Garnet had no personal possessions, save for the knife on the end-table, and the upright piano against one wall. The rest of the room was the bed, chair, and small table that came with the hotel.
"Well, it's still nice to see you all the same," replied Garnet, the smile dimmed but not gone as she motioned for him to have a seat. "You're welcome to stay as long as you like, but... I'm afraid I don't really have much to offer."
