Maya was a little happy and a little sad to see Pearl drawn here with her. The word she had once coined for Laharl was "smad." This was a very "smad" week, what with Mia coming back but both her and Mr. Armando feeling under the weather, and now Pearl showing up? Maya was a regular nurse all of a sudden.
Pearl had already gone to bed at her usual early hour. Whenever Pearl was with Maya, Maya let her stay up as late as she wanted, but it was kind of cute how she insisted on going to bed at eight o'clock sharp. Peeking into her room at the hotel (now shared with Pearl), she was actually surprised to see her little cousin awake.
"Pearly!" Maya said, stepping in and having a seat on the bed. "You're up late. How's it going?"
Pearl really hadn't expected anyone to come check in on her, least of all Mystic Maya. She wanted to be as little trouble as possible, attempting to not be a burden for Mystic Maya if she could help it, but her older cousin peeked her head in and Pearl jumped a little, turning to look at where the black-haired girl was now sitting on the bed.
Pearl hesitated before walking over and sitting down next to her cousin. This insem-whatever was really getting to her and she felt more than a little upset that she couldn't just fall straight to sleep. Maybe it was the atmosphere or something?
"I couldn't sleep," she admitted softly, eyes turned to the floor as she waited for Maya to tell her what she'd been up to. "So I got up to look outside for a little. It's so... so different here." The little girl sounded almost scared at the idea of being here and one couldn't really blame her... It was a scary place in the best of times.
Maya frowned at that and bit her lip. Poor Pearl was reminding her a lot of herself when she first got here-- Mia had to put up with a frightened Maya trailing her 24/7 for quite a long time before Maya was comfortable enough to look at Manhattan as an adventure. That was really the only way you could look at it without wanting to scream and cry all the time-- and Maya didn't even have the excuse of being nine years old.
"Oh Pearly," she said, sliding an arm over her cousin's shoulder and pulling her into half a hug. "It's okay. This place is kinda scary sometimes, but you just gotta look on the bright side. There's people here to look out for us, and Nick would want us to be brave."
Pearl's head remained down a bit as Maya pulled her into a hug, finally resting against her older cousin's shoulder. Maya had always been her strength when things got really rough and if Pearl had had a sister, she'd want her to be like Mystic Maya.
"The bright side?" Pearl really hadn't ever thought that this place had a bright side, but Maya certainly seemed sure about that. The brunette tossed things over in her head for a moment before pulling back and searching Maya's expression for that bravery she wasn't quite feeling yet.
"I-is Mr. Nick here, too, or is it just me, you, and Mystic Mia?"
