Franziska had heard about the rescue attempts going on, but had absolutely no interest in joining their efforts. She was still attempting to figure out how she was feeling about things.
Going for a walk seemed to be a viable option, so that was what she had done, whip coiled in her hand. She hadn't gotten terribly far when she'd heard the skittering. Crabs. Lovely. Franziska von Karma wasn't afraid of much and she tended not to think of this as being afraid of anything as much as it was self-preservation.
Ducking behind a building, she attempted to hide, whip ready in case anything happened to cross her path. The first set of skitterings and footsteps granted a lash from her whip just as the thing responsible for the sounds crossed in front of her. Whatever it was would at least suffer a sting or two.
The last thing he was expecting to come flying out of nowhere was the crack of a whip. Nicholas turned toward the movement instinctively, just in time to see the silver-haired young lady before the end lashed across his cheek.
"Ow!" He clapped a hand to his cheek--that had stung. "Hey, lady, you've got a funny way of trying to rescue a fellow! Whoa!" Nicholas leaped back as one of the ugly little things jumped at him, and kicked a second as hard as he could, sending it hurtling into the side of a building.
Franziska had been expecting a crab to be at the other end of her whip, so when she felt it connect with something entirely different, she gave pause for a moment, glaring at the person who had cried out at her. She didn't get much time before she was forced to crack her whip against a crab to keep it from taking advantage of their surprise.
"Rescuing anyone was not my intention," she assured him with a glare at the nearby crabs. They didn't seem to be taking any damage, though she didn't move or stop whipping them.
"There has to be an exit, a hiding place, or somewhere to run," she grumbled, kicking one of the crabs in the face with her shoe.
"Well that's not very friendly!" Damn, just kicking the crabs away wasn't helping very much, since they just got up and came at them again. What he wouldn't give for his Punisher right about now. Or even just a good handgun or two.
"Exit, huh? Not a bad idea, lady." There, that looked promising--a church-looking structure between a pair of skyscrapers with high windows and a set of sturdy double doors. "When all else fails, God provides." Nicholas darted forward and snatched up the girl, throwing her over a shoulder and making a dash for the church.
