Whilst looking curiously around for her dear friend Patrick, Caren skips merrily ahead of the Pretty Lady she had recently begun to call Rushuna. After a few difficult yet fun chats together, they managed to communicate well enough to tell each other their name. That wasn't all; Rushuna taught her a few other words too, even her favorite bowl of soup ( ... )

Rushuna's arms gently enveloped Caren in a comforting hug, trying to draw away some of her disappointment.

"It's okay," she murmured soothingly, a warm smile on her face. "We'll keep looking, and I'll do my best to help you. Alright?"

Rushuna's eyes scanned the statue, taking note of what she noticed. The hair..."Patrick" probably looked solid, and he dressed in leather, maybe? Filing it away for later, she continued the hug, staying until Caren was ready to resume searching.

It took a while for Caren to reluctantly break the embrace, feeling sad over the mannequin doll not being Patrick. She had spent many days looking for him, yet every time she went out and searched with Rushuna she would return disappointed. Was she ever going to find Patrick again? She didn’t remember much about him, but he was the only connection she had to her past; whether he’d been a friend or not Caren just wanted him here.

‘And some din dins…’Wiping away the tears Caren looked up at Rushuna. She hadn’t fully understood what the lady had said, but she could tell by her expression she wanted to help and keep searching. Yes yes yes! Caren wouldn’t give up, not now; she had come this far ( ... )

No lit windows.

No lit street lamps.

No lit anything!

Putting her arm around her scared companion, Rushuna tried to soothe her. "I-it's okay, really! It's...it's a nice night out, and it's clear, so we can use the moonlight to-"

SKWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Oh no~!

"L-let's go back home, okay?"

Three blocks. They'd probably be able to make it.

Hopefully.

Caren didn’t like that sound, she reaaaaaally didn’t like it at all. It sounded too much like that scary monster from her dream! No way it couldn’t be that-

Another monstrous cry broke the air and Caren cried out clinging to Rushuna tightly. Oh no it was! It was going to crush her and chop her and eat her and…what came after eating? Uh, it didn’t matter she just wanted to go home!

Rushuna was leading her back the way they came quicker than usual; it was starting to make Caren worry that maybe she was afraid too.

‘B-But Rushuna never gets scared’

Something distant caught her attention, the sound of scuttling feet claws. Not just a set, but many of them, and they were getting closer! The same unnatural high pitch shriek hit her eardrums from behind and Caren squeezed her eyes shut, feeling Rushuna tugging her along to run faster.
