It was nearly New Year's and the hotel needed new decorations, as far as Maya was concerned. There was also a list in her pocket of things that the hotel residents needed new sets of-- socks, a few sets of underwear, coffee filters for Mr. Armando (Maya had drawn a smiley face rolling its eyes at that one) and a few other basic supplies.

She probably wasn't supposed to go off alone, but Macy's was so close to the hotel, and she hadn't seen many crabs for a while. Just to be safe, she had her trusty baseball bat at her side and she ran as fast as she could.

Safe inside the store, Maya made her way to the clothing section and was busily digging through the racks, not paying much attention around her.

She really should have been paying attention. Perhaps her survival didn't matter to her, though. Even if somebody wasn't out to kill her, there were still the crab monsters to worry about.

Rolo paced across the linoleum floor, not minding the noise his footfalls made, until he stood directly behind Maya. He pulled the gun from his pocket and cocked it; normally by this point he would simply use his Geass and render his victim immobile, but Lelouch wanted her to stay alive.

Too bad. This would have been an easy one.

He didn't say a word. Though he did have some things to say to her, he didn't want to speak too much, lest his voice be recognizable later on.

Maya was lost in her own little world as she dug through the racks, but the footfalls alerted her to someone else's presence. "Who's there?" she asked, turning around just in time to hear a sound she'd only heard in movies before-- the sound of someone cocking a gun.

It took her a moment to realize that the masked man behind her really was wearing a mask-- and really was holding a gun. She gasped out loud and her hands rose up in front of her as though meekly surrendering. "What are you doing!?" she stammered. "Who are you?!"

Rolo almost had to smile under the mask. This was such a cliché it was almost funny. He leveled the gun at her, but didn't shoot; he had to give her a chance to run away.

"Dahlia Hawthorne sends her regards," he said simply, making his voice slightly deeper than normal.

About fifteen minutes later, Maya slowly opened her eyes. Oh no, I'm a ghost! she thought, but looking around the interior of the closet she felt strangely alive.

She sat up slowly and looked around the room. The closet door was open and her assassin was nowhere to be found. Did that mean it really did work? And someone had saved her?

Her answer lay on the back of the note that had been in her pocket, now lying on the floor. She picked it up and read it, her heart pounding excitedly. So her plan HAD worked! But who in the world had saved her? They must have been someone in the city, or else why would they be telling her to stay here?

She folded up the note and remained sitting against the wall in the closet, holding it tightly in her hands and taking some deep breaths to try and calm down. She couldn't hold it in, though, when she started to cry from the stress and the aftershocks of terror.

Auron wasn't entirely sure where he was headed, but he had gotten a view out of some of the windows and it looked as though he'd been in some sort of department store. It had taken him a bit longer than he would have liked to reach her, but he had gotten there as fast as he could. He hadn't seen the assassin leave, so for all he knew the boy could still be there, and his efforts be for naught.

Once he was finally inside, it didn't take him long to find Maya. He stood nearby, watching her silently. He should have known such an incident would shake the girl up. Perhaps it was best that he had told her to stay there after all.

"You are unharmed?"

Maya jumped about a foot in the air at the sound of a familiar voice, and it wasn't until she glanced over her shoulder that she saw who it was. "Mr. Auron!" she gasped, and jumped up to her feet. "I-I'm okay! My head sort of hurts, but I think that was just ( ... )

Auron stayed silent as she went on, neither affirming nor denying her statement. It seemed as though his secret was out to one person not part of his world.

His annoyance faded as the girl latched onto him, and Auron just stood there, allowing Maya to hold on. With all that had happened, she had every reason to panic. And Auron honestly wasn't sure what to do in these situations to begin with.

After a few minutes had passed, he spoke up again. "Where are you staying?"
