Fletcher was wandering around the outside perimeter of the university, bundled up in winter gear, not really headed anywhere in particular. He just needed some fresh air. The longer he stayed here in Manhattan the more antsy he felt. Were they really safe now that they'd moved away from the library? He wasn't sure.
Something up above caught his eye. Had something just landed on the roof? He couldn't be sure, but he thought it was a person.
This was getting Evangeline nowhere. The building was in no way useful to her. As far as she gathered the building was for basic lectures, probably subjects she either knew from memory or didn't care about. She sighed and looked out a window as she tried to make this process go faster.
A boy.
Interesting... he could be easily swayed to help her, or at least be made into a snack. Well, probably not. The group on this island seemed rather interconnected. She also didn't want to upset her standing food source by feeding on innocent creatures. She considered the options while she slipped out the window and floated down to the ground.
"You-" she paused and took a more pleasant tone, at least for now, "Excuse me, um, I'm looking for the science labs and metal shop for a friend of mine? Can you help me?" She walked toward him hoping her ragged cloak used to terrorize the world for centuries would not upset that rather cute black outfit under it.
Fletcher jumped at her tone and shrank back, then relaxed a little when her voice became nicer. "Oh! Um, the science labs? I know where those are." All the time he'd spent wandering around the university was paying off. "I'm not sure about the metal shop, though. But if you'd like I can try to help!"
"Oh, um," she used every trick she learned from 500 years of life being a ten year old, plus watching her classmates do this helped in more recent years. "I-I need these things, and-um, I need to make a r-ring." God she hated adding that cute-stammer and quiver in her voice. Such a demeaning thing for the most feared vampire in two worlds.
It didn't help that she was feeling a little feverish, her body should have been able to hand the ammount of cold she was in earlier, and her vampire healing should have covered the slack. Yet she had been feeling bad for a few days now.
It didn't help she didn't have a proper bed and it was a long trip down here. She might need to feed, which would make this harder. She handed the boy the list. It was an erratic list of common spices, household chemicals, and some of the higher grade explosive compounds. "I-I-I'm Evangeline. W-what's your n-name?"
Rebecca had been almost to the university when she realized she didn't really have any idea where the boy and his stabbed friend were within the grounds. She considered that she'd either have to look around until she found someone with directions, or find a computer and ask the boy where they were, more specifically.
She just hoped that the injury wasn't too severe, and she'd be able to get there in time.
As pure luck would have it, the first place she tried looking happened to be the right one, and as soon as she spotted her queries she was pulling her bag from her belt, moving to crouch down next to the boy who was doing as she'd instructed over the journals.
"How's she doing?" She asked as she pulled sterile gloves and bandages from her kit.
Fletcher sniffled a little, but managed to keep from being an uncontrollable wreck. That wouldn't do anyone any good; he'd have plenty of time to cry later. He looked up at Rebecca. The knife was still in Evangeline's gut; he hadn't known whether it would be best to leave it in or remove it, but the laws of physics told him taking it out would make blood spurt everywhere. He hoped he'd chosen right.
"She was like this when I came in," he said quietly. "I didn't know what to do..."
Pulling the gloves on, Rebecca took in the wound, before turning to the boy briefly and smiling, reaching out to pat his arm.
"It's okay, you did fine. My name's Rebecca Chambers, and I'm a medic, so we're going to help your friend out, okay?" Picking up a pack of gauze she separated the squares and braced them on either side of the knife still sticking out of the wound, making that priority. She could see the girl was still breathing, but she needed to know how deep the wound was. If it had cut into anything vital she'd have a bit more work ahead of her.
Bracing her fingers on either side of the knife, holding the gauze in place, she gripped the handle and carefully pulled it out, setting it aside and applying full pressure with one hand. "How long ago did this happen?"
He moved out of her way to let her do her job, watching the entire time. "Right before I put up that post," he answered. "I heard her screaming and came in and-- and she was like this."
It was his fault again. If only he hadn't walked away...
