Sora couldn't sleep.

He figured part of it was the cold. Without heat, the hotel rooms could easily get freezing, and the only way to ward off the cold was to drown in blankets. So he'd headed down to the basement and lobby...at least the fires were usually going, and were easy to fall asleep by.

But there were other reasons, too. He wanted to, but he couldn't stop thinking about his encounter with Seymour. It made him angry more than anything else, and part of him wanted to just ignore that it had ever happened. Let that crazy freak do whatever he wanted. He deserved it all. What did he care ( ... )

Of course it was Axel who had started the fire. That was why he'd come to the hotel, or at least one of the reasons. He hadn't expected to see Sora down here either, not at this hour, and looked at him curiously, tipping his head to one side. The rest of him was hidden away again.

"I am fire, fire is me," he said abstractly, waving an expressive hand toward the aforementioned. "I like being around it. What's your excuse?"

Sora cocked his head at the red-haired Nobody. He was sounding pretty awake (and abstract) for this hour, but it probably was just the fire.

"Can't sleep," he murmured in a voice that said he wasn't giving the complex answer. "It's...it's too cold." Not that that was much of an excuse...he'd toughed it out in worse places, like on the windy mountaintops of Mulan's world.

He plopped down on one of the leather couches by the fireplace, wrapping himself up in the hotel comforters. For awhile, he just stared at the crackling fire, remaining unnaturally quiet. He didn't know if he'd be able to sleep now, but at least he was warmer. "Thanks for making it."

Somebodies, in Axel's opinion, were usually pretty easy to read. Emotions affected their behavior. And Sora had never been what you could call subtle.

"Then you've come to the right place." He figured he didn't need to press; whatever was on Sora's mind would probably come out sooner or later, though he was being unusually quiet. Axel didn't respond to his thanks, but he made a little gesture at the fire that made it burn brighter and hotter.
