Days past since Aximili had been holed up from place to place throughout the ruined city. Nomadic, really, devoid of any need to remain in one residence for long, and no sense of a dwelling place. With no inclination to be inconspicuous around here, it seemed fruitless to be switching forms as often as he was. Habit, perhaps, as Aximili had grown prone to, while on the human planet, to be seen as one of them.

He stayed human, savaging the streets. No home, no purpose, no wars to fight. Pointless. Yet it was better than being aboard the Intrepid, doing practically nothing ( ... )

Slowing her pace slightly, Cheryl spotted a promising-looking plank of splintered wood sticking up from one of the shattered pews. As she stopped and climbed over the thicker broken pieces of wood, she heard the distinct sound of something tapping over in one of the unlit corners of the church. She crouched closer to the wood she was standing on, edging herself towards her quarry and yanking it free, before holding it close to her body, climbing out of the rubble on the other side.

She briefly considered just running for it, but she didn't know if there was a back exit in the church, and she could still hear the muffled sounds of that other creature outside the front door. Feeling slightly bold with the plank of wood securely in her hands, she stood her ground and set her jaw.

"I know something's in here, so if you're gonna attack me just hurry up and do it so I can get on with my day." As far as she knew that wouldn't work, but the sound of her voice might aggravate something blessed with no higher thought process into charging

Peering inquisitively from the shadows, Aximili watched as the girl reached for the plank, pausing, then holding it up in her own defense... and with good reason.

He took the girl’s tone to heart. Clearly she had been having a bad day, or more than. After spending so much time on this planet, he had grown used to recognizing human emotions when he heard them. Not too difficult to understand now.

< I have no desire to harm you. > His voice, on the other hand... he had none. Instead, his words echoed into her brain, hoping to calm her at least somewhat ( ... )

The sound of a voice in her head caused her to whip her head around, trying to find a source so she knew she wasn't hearing things. When she turned back to the corner she'd been eying, there was a guy standing there. That really didn't match up with the mental image she'd had built up in her head, or the sounds she'd heard a second ago, so a look of incredulity on her face she stepped towards him, still holding the plank in a somewhat defensive position.

"What. The hell. Is going on here? And where is here anyway?" He was dressed pretty weird to be a member of the cult, but she wasn't going to take any chances. There were other wackos out there besides the Order, anyway.
