Characters: Phoenix and Apollo Content: Nick and Polly play their own round of poker. Location: Madison Square Garden Time of day: Early evening Warnings: Polly is even more of a goober than Nick.
Apollo couldn't believe he was going to play poker with Mr. Wright. There were rare occasions that he'd invite Apollo to play in the future, and was always met with some sort of sputtering decline. After all, there was no way Apollo could beat him! None! A man who went undefeated for seven years straight? No way!
Apollo knew next to nothing about the game and was going to be completely dependent on Mr. Wright explaining the rules to him right then-- though he'd always been exceptionally good at Bullshit when he was in high school. But poker was a step up!
He swallowed and tugged at his collar as he stepped up to the table. "Alright, I'm here, Mr. Wright!"
"Hey." Phoenix grinned and gave his deck one last shuffle before setting it on the table in front of him. He felt that much more relaxed with Apollo looking as flustered as he did - he felt more like he knew what he was doing. He started setting out chips, distributing the right amounts to each of them. "... So, uh. Did you watch any of the games the other night?"
He sat down, looking at the chips, and it was pretty obvious he knew nothing about what was happening. So, he looked a bit embarrassed to admit that he was probably about to get schooled in the ways of poker. But, a game couldn't hurt!
He placed a hand over his head, his classic flustered pose.
"Not at all, Mr. Wright. I wasn't planning on playing."
He checked and double-checked the chips, cut the deck... and looking up realized that maybe Apollo was even more nervous than he'd realized. "Too bad," he tried, "They were pretty good."
He tapped the top of the deck with one hand and drummed his fingers against the table with the other. This could get very complicated very fast. "... Do you need me to show you?"
