the power cable for the laptop set off a snap-crackle-pop in a spectacular ruby colour very near my feet

Yikes!! And I have just the icon for that...

No, no, no! Absolutely no earth-shattering kabooms! I forbid them!

Marvin the Martian was so cute when he was infuriated.

Eep, excessive burning of house is discouraged! (And GRAH, the Mouse keeps failing to shut the freezer door properly which is Hugely Annoying. But I digress.)

Crochet? Oh SO MUCH. But there may well be more deserving causes. I don't suppose "I would use it" will win me too much plaudits in the way of carefully crafted crocheting, but I would. :)

We just bought a new freezer which is supposed to have a child-proof lock. Luckily we have no children as it doesn't seem to work :-S

You are on the list darling! 'I would use it' is totally valid in this contest. Way more valid than me keeping it 'because it might come in useful one day...' :-D

Crochet? No thanks! I leave it to people capable of sewing more than an inch without a) going askew and b) getting bored.

Red sparks of doom? Also no. You scare me with your powers of evil.

Perhaps you prefer spinning yarn then? :-D

My Evil Powers of Evil are terrifying. Excellent. *rubs hands and cackles. glares at static sparks coming off hands*

Oh how I wish I did want the crochet hooks - but I've never got past granny-squares and haven't even made those for a while. And if I do make them again I have a couple of hooks!

Sends much love to poor lappy...

Never did see the cachet of crochet, myself. But then I've taken up ukulele, so who am I to talk?

Lappy's condition is stable and not currently life-threatening (either for it or us), but expected to be a few days before it recovers enough to speak to us.

I crocheted 27 feet of lace for my wedding veil, and a garment of some sort for my first baby, who is now 25. So I'm probably not the best candidate.

Daughter ~2 has come home with a laptop emergency, which appears to involve battery/powerpack, so you have my sympathies.

27 feet! Never mind the crochet, that's one hell of a veil! Must have been heavy walking down the aisle, surely?
