Upton Sinclair would have totally agreed with the above article... it appears straight out of the Socialist headline. The only issue I have with this is that hardworking families are being punished for doing well, while some very lazy people are being rewarded for doing nothing ( ... )

I don't at all mind the comparison. Upton Sinclair was a brilliant man who truly cared about the poor people of this country. And I like that he said, "It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends on his not understanding it ( ... )

There are so many problems with the welfare system itself that advocates the lazy idea it's not even funny. Let's assume that you live in HUD housing and have kids. You live there because they base rent off your income and your income isn't enough to provide you with housing elsewhere. You can't be a college student and live there. I understand they just don't want a bunch of students there living rent free and turning it essentially to the dorms, but that rule is keeping people from trying to better themselves. At some point in my life I'd like to start a program that trains low-income single parents to do actual job skills, like medical transcription and other computer work but isn't college, so they can get a better paying job. I just don't accept the belief that people don't want to work and would rather mooch off the government ( ... )

We are currently in a low tax bracket. I am not saying that everyone who lives in poverty is lazy. We have lived in poverty a long time, and have sought out ways to better ourselves *without* government support ( ... )

Something I noticed in our state was that a lot of Republicans were trying to make "politically correct" platforms and many of them touted they were pro-choice.

I didn't plan on voting Republican anyway. Actually I didn't plan on voting at all. I very much have the "same guy, different hat" mentality, but since I am the only one in my household who has a voice in the government issues (however small), and at the urging of Alex, I voted.

I agree with you. The Catholic platform rings true of the Democratic one. People overall think that somehow voting a certain way gives a nod to certain immorals regardless of what the real goal is...
